Three constables photographed "sleeping" in a Cape Town police station charge office

A photograph of three police officers sleeping at a Cape Town police station charge office on Facebook has opened a can of worms.

The Mitchells Plain police station commander Major General Veary has started an investigation into the matter after denying that the photograph, posted by Mitchells Plain DA councillor Grant Pascoe, was authentic.

Pascoe has responded by initiating an investigation of his own, with the aim to prove that the photo is real.

AND WHAT DID THE COPS DO?

The police responded by claiming that the picture was "manipulated" and immediately launched an investigation into its origin.

The three lady constables, who are members of Popcru, strongly denied that they were sleeping.

They say that they were 'ordered' to pose for the picture.

At first, the police claimed that the ladies don't work there. Now it emerges that they do work there, but were put up to it.

Instead of civil servants saying sorry and trying to put the situation right, they launch a witch-hunt.

And of course the race card - there were also reports that the situation at the police station was caused by racism.
