Lo and behold, we are on the brink of an ANC dictatorship. Anyone who thinks this observation is alarmist has not given due thought to the political shenanigans of the ANC over the past two years and especially during the run-up to the ANC’s Polokwane conference and its aftermath.

Through “deployment” the ANC has systematically taken control of all sectors of society, including the state machinery.

ANC cadres with strong links to political office-bearers, most of whom do not necessarily have the requisite skills and acumen, were deployed in critical positions in government and other state organs.

Virtually all director-general, municipal manager and other top directorship positions in the public sector and other state institutions became the preserve of ANC members.

Patronage has become the order of the day. Government tenders are awarded in exchange for party funding .

Only the names of ANC heroes must resonate in the minds and hearts of the electorate and this is crucial for ensuring that the ANC rules until “Jesus comes back” — as the Right Reverend Jacob Zuma puts it.

The ANC secretary-general’s attack on Justice Dikgang Moseneke, a stalwart of the liberation course himself, for a speech he made at his birthday party, or Julius Malema and his elderly parrot, Zwelinzima Vavi’s, vow to kill for Zuma or eliminate for him, whatever the term used, should be viewed as no idle threat because the congress alliance does have a history of killing those who differ with it.

If you don’t believe Vavi, ask the families of non-striking security guards who were maimed and killed by Cosatu hooligans during wage strikes two years ago.
