Michael Phelps won his tenth Olympic gold medal, setting a world record for the most number of Olympic golds won by a single athlete when he stormed to victory in the Men's 200m Butterfly final on Wednesday. Hungary's Laszlo Cesh took silver in 1:52.70, and the bronze went to Japanese Takeshi Matsuda in 1:52.97.

Italy's Federica Pellegrini won gold with a world record time of 1:54.82 in the Women's 200m Freestyle final at the National Aquatics Center on Wednesday, August 13.

Pellegrini's time was 0.63 seconds under the old world record mark. The swim was all the more impressive because of Pellegrini's heavy Beijing 2008 Olympic Games schedule.

Sara Isakovic of Slovenia, the fastest qualifier into the final on Tuesday, August 12, took silver in 1:54.97.

China's hopes for a surprise gold medal in the race looked good early on with Pang Jiaying swimming strongly, but she faded in the last 50m. Nevertheless, she had done enough to hold on for a bronze medal in 1:55.05 - and to set an Asian record.

Katie Hoff of the United States, who qualified second fastest for the final, finished fourth in an Americas record time of 1:55.78.

Camelia Alina Potec of Romania, the defending Olympic champion, finished in fifth place in 1:56.87.

The Women's 200m Individual Medley final was held at the National Aquatics Center during day five of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on August 13, 2008 in Beijing, China. Stephanie Rice of Australia broke the world record to win the gold medal. Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe took the silver in 2:08.59 and Natalie Coughlin of the United States won the bronze in 2:10.34.

Women's 200m Individual Medley: Rice crowned best all-rounder - Stephanie Rice of Australia underlined her dominance in the Medley events when she broke her own world record to win the Olympic Women's 200m Individual Medley gold medal in a new mark of 2:08.45. Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry took silver and American Natalie Coughlin the bronze.

United States wins Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay gold with world record - The United States won the Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay with a new world record at the Beijing Olympic Games on Wednesday.

The American quartet clocked a stunning world record of 6:58.56 to beat the previous mark of 7:03.24. Russia won the silver and Australia finished third.

Beijing - August 13,2008: China made history today by winning its first Olympic gold medal in the Team event of Women's Gymnastics. China won the gold medal with a total of 188.900 points.

The United States won the silver medal with a total of 186.525 points and Romania won the bronze with a total of 181.525 points.
