A traditional healer was arrested on Wednesday for murder hours after allegedly disembowelling her 12-year-old daughter in a muti-related murder at Loate, near Ga-Rankuwa.

Muti killings, where humans are killed for their body parts

The girl was found in the yard of her mother's house, which she shares with five other residents.

Police found the child had been stabbed in the neck and chest and her intestines had been pulled out of her abdomen. The knife wound showed the girl had been sliced open from her sternum to the pelvis just below her navel.

According to police, the mother, who is a sangoma, allegedly killed her daughter in the belief that her death would help improve her business which was doing badly.

Police sniffer dogs led officers to four exhibits on the premises. All of them were contaminated with human blood.

The premises served as residential and business premises for the woman's traditional healing practice.
