South Africa Falling Into Decay

By <a href="http://sarahmaidofalbion.blogspot.com/search/label/Poetry.%20Mike%20Wilson">Mike Wilson</a> South Africa – the name conjures up visions of white colonialism, riches of diamonds and gold, beautiful cities, beautiful people, rich farmlands and technical innovation. A strong and vibrant country with a modern army and air force and an air of expectancy, handed down from Afrikaner father to son, that their land would be the greatest in the whole continent. <iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6Gm7IzfqWos" width="640"></iframe> Well it does to me and this is what the country used to be like when I lived there 40 years ago. Johannesburg was a thriving metropolis of great buildings and the frenzied rush of people going about their affairs much like any other major city in the world. It was such a powerhouse of people, ideas and innovations and the strong Boer mentality over rode all. Today Johannesburg appears to be a run down shanty town with decrepit buildings, boarded up windows, filthy garbage riddled streets and squalor everywhere. What happened?   <iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LW6lOdxqSUE" width="640"></iframe> The infamous pass laws were rescinded in the early 90’s and the black man took over the country. This utopia, this land of riches, this gemstone in the crown of the continent is now like so many other African nations, a struggling mix of different tribes coming to terms with life in the 21st century. Unfortunately for these black Africans, they have not been able to rise above tribal culture and are cursed with a background that has not reached the stage which would enable them to mentally grasp all the requirements that are needed to administer a complex and busy country. From being the underdog to being the dominant force today has created major schisms within the overall South African society. There is an ongoing payback mentality that encourages blacks to take from the whites in many different ways. In one way the houses of white people are regularly burgled and effects stolen. This is not done covertly and gangs of blacks regularly threaten households. In another way there is what is now called ‘Black Empowerment’ or BEE where blacks are given preference over whites for available jobs. This stupid practice gives the unskilled African peasant direct involvement in manning the infrastructure support that runs the country. As a consequence the major power supply company Eskom is unable to maintain its equipment as most of the trained skilled white staff are no longer employed. This has caused frequent power supply problems so that they had to rely on power shedding or in other words maintaining power to select parts of their industry rather than all consumers who need it. The current youth leader of the ANC, Julius Malema, keeps telling his followers to kill the Boer, one man one bullet. He has recently been found guilty of inciting racial hatred and fined 50,000 Rand for his troubles. Not that this has changed his tactic one iota and on a recent trip to Zimbabwe he went out of his way to repeat the phrase to all who would listen. Over 3,000 white farmers have been murdered since the ANC took over in a deliberate government policy to get whites to give up their land. From being a rich farming country under white rule South Africa now faces the prospect of importing food to feed the masses. Many whites claim that there is now a policy of genocide levelled against Boer farmers as a result of the ANC policy to grab land. This is the same process that started in Zimbabwe and will have the same result. On a recent trip to Zimbabwe there were talks between Mugabe and Malema on how to take over the remaining land still in the hands of white minorities. Now there is also talk of the mining industry which made SA very rich, being nationalised for the benefit of the black politicians. Law and order is a thing of the past now. There is no law of protection for whites and no laws for the blacks to abide by. Even Jacob Zuma the current leader of the ANC had a number of rape and corruption charges levelled against him by the then law and order anti- corruption team called the Scorpions. The ANC had an easy answer to all this, they simply disbanded the unit and the charges were dropped! In fact many of the black policemen supposedly upholding what little law and order is left, are themselves involved in burglarising, raping and armed robberies. The number of deaths of whites has been unrecorded although the litany of deaths occurs on a daily basis. Many people felt that with the advent of black rule and empowerment blacks and whites would be able to sit together and maintain a strong and prosperous country that would continue to be the envy of Sub Saharan Africa. Today the situation is so bad that the country is becoming another Zimbabwe and whites are powerless to stop it but can only look on in horror as their once great country crumbles about them. Due to the political process of giving to the black at the expense of the white there are now 450,000 white people living below the poverty line in shanty towns around the country. The majority of these people are from Afrikaans backgrounds who would normally be the underclass looking after fairly menial jobs, railway workers, cleaners etc. Since those jobs are now taken by blacks these unfortunate men, women and children have no recourse but to become part of the homeless generation, forgotten by more affluent whites as well as the black government. Even some soup kitchens that were set up by well minded individuals have been closed by bureaucrats who say that the whites must fend for themselves. It’s only the help from other whites that keeps these unfortunate people with some form of subsistence. White liberalism is to blame for the problems affecting South Africa and the fall of the white Governments pre 1994. The world saw a country with blacks being oppressed and demanded change for the betterment of the black population. Just like Rhodesia several years earlier. Today, who has benefited from these changes? Certainly not the blacks as the majority of them are now far worse off than ever they were under white rule. Again, the classic example is Zimbabwe under the megalomaniac Mugabe who has robbed his country blind whilst 98% of his followers still live in shantytowns without the benefits of modern civilisation and in abject poverty. Every one of the ruling politicians in South Africa lives a life of wealth and privilege, with the latest cars, biggest houses in the best suburbs etc., yet their followers are very much worse off than they were when the whites ruled the country. Apart from the trashing of cities which have become sleazy rubbish dumps the hospital services are almost non existent. It’s hard to accept that the country that pioneered the first heart transplant under Dr. Christian Barnard has now a run down medical service which once used to be the envy of the world. Everything about the country today smacks of total incompetence with inmates running the asylum for the rest of the inmates who just have no idea what is going on. <a href="http://elliotlakenews.wordpress.com/2010/04/18/eugene-terreblanche-last-interview/">The murder of Eugene Terreblanche</a> may be just the last nail in the coffin of apathy that has affected the white liberals in this broken country. Indeed, apathy is probably the correct word to describe how the rest of the world views this former nation. It just seems that the power brokers amongst civilised nations are just sitting on the sidelines waiting for the continent to implode before they go back in perhaps 40 years time or so, and pick up the pieces once more. Although by that time the Chinese will have probably got in first and blacks will have a far stronger, stricter and nastier overseer than the whites ever were.

Based on hearsay – and their abiding sympathy for savages – news media across the West are insisting that the motive for the murder was a "labor dispute." This the oleaginous officials of the African National Congress (Mandela's gang) must just love; they share with their admirers in the West a determination to ignore (and perhaps to encourage) the black onslaught against white South African farmers, or Boers (who happen to feed the continent). Those of us who've been studying the systematic, race-based extermination of farming South Africa know too well the telltale signs of a farm murder. Without exception, Mr. Terre'Blanche and all <a href="http://censorbugbear-reports.blogspot.com/2010/04/eugene-terreblanche-farm-murder-victim.html" target="blank">3,769 farmers murdered since "freedom"</a> were slaughtered in ways that would do Shaka Zulu proud. The brutality of the racially motivated murders of white farmers in South Africa, and, increasingly, of whites in general, is one aspect of these crimes. Mr. Terre'Blanche was unrecognizable. Two weeks before he was slaughtered, 17-year-old Anika Smit was raped, her throat slashed 16 times and her hands hacked off and removed from the scene. Both acts of butchery were unremarkable in Mandela's South Africa. The dehumanization of the victim – Crimen injuria in South African law – is another feature of these feral acts. When they were finished with him, Terre'Blanche's killers pulled down the old man's pants, exposing his privates. Slain white farmers are often displayed like trophies by their black killers. Mr. Terre'Blanche was a victim of a farm murder, plain and simple. Afrikaner farmers are being exterminated at the genocidal annual rate of 313 per 100,000 inhabitants. Or, in the estimation of Dr. Gregory H. Stanton, who heads "Genocide Watch," "four times as high as is for the rest of the population," making farming in South Africa the most dangerous occupation in the world. (Miners, by comparison, suffer 27.8 fatalities per 100,000 workers.) Mr. Terre'Blanche's killers, who crept up on him in his sleep, were being hailed as heroes by black groups outside the Ventersdorp courthouse in which they appeared (in a part of South Africa now known as the North West Province) and beyond. Just in case her readers forgot who here was on the side of the angels, the Associated Press' <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hrpMwBXkcT9U82xFm1JPNnmRqtAQD9ETFVEO0" target="blank">pack animal Michelle Faul</a> gave them a history lesson peppered with politically correct pieties. She wrote: <blockquote>"Blacks outside the courthouse were singing … songs from the struggle for majority rule that finally came in 1994 after years of state-sponsored violence by the white minority regime and urban guerrilla warfare waged by the African National Congress."</blockquote>As Ms. Faul tells it, the white crowd, there to protest (gasp) the slaying of Mr. Terre'Blanche, was singing (horrors) "the apartheid-era anthem in the Afrikaans language." As hard as it is for stupid Westerners to believe, there was life before black majority rule. The white minority settled the tip of the African continent around the same time Americans settled there's. Like their American coreligionists, the puritans of South Africa built the country currently being dismantled by the black majority. And, lo – they had a national life and an anthem: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_FpGYL2Y_g" target="blank">"Die Stem."</a> Here's a verse of that old "hate speech": In the golden warmth of summer, In the chill of winter's air, In the surging life of springtime, In the autumn of despair; When the wedding bells are chiming, Or when those we love depart, Thou dost know us for thy children And dost take us to thy heart. Loudly peals the answering chorus; We are thine, and we shall stand, Be it life or death, to answer Thy call, beloved land. <a href="http://www.nationalanthems.info/za-94.txt" target="blank">"Die Stem"</a> is a paean to God and country, and rather beautiful at that. Western journalists hunt in packs. The AP is only aping the ANC, according to which the old anthem is unsavory. Not so the hit jingle, "Kill The Boer; Kill the Farmer." For it, says the ANC, does no more than pay homage to the Party's illustrious history. (Agreed: Incitement to murder is a fitting ANC anthem.) In the "New South Africa," there is indeed a renewed appreciation for this old slogan, chanted at political rallies and funerals during "The Struggle" (against apartheid). <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIsO78kkJP0&feature=player_embedded" target="blank">The riff</a> has been revived by ANC Youth League President Julius Malema, who stomps around the country calling for Boer scalps at every opportunity. (Malema has lived most of his life under black rule.) Variants of the hit "Kill the Boer" have hit the social networking site Facebook. At the time Anika was taken, the country had been embroiled in a debate about posts that appeared under the name of Malema. One entry called on "fellow black people" to "take [their] land," and "rape every trespasser, namely white whores … till the last breath is out. … White kids will be burned, especially those in Pretoria and Vrystaat." Anika, an Afrikaner, was from Pretoria. Popularized by Mandela's men, and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcOXqFQw2hc" target="blank">sung by The Man himself,</a> the AP considers an exhortation to kill whites nothing but an "anti-apartheid song" with Liberation lyrics. Mantras and chants have a mesmerizing, often murderous, power in African life. The West's malpracticing and mindless liberal media have forgotten this. In its hypnotic hold on the popular imagination, "Kill the Boer; Kill the Farmer" is not unlike the "Kill them before they kill you" catch phrase that helped excite Hutus to massacre half a million of their Tutsi neighbors, whom they had dehumanized first by dubbing as "inyenzi" ("cockroaches"). Of course, banning an incitement to murder will do nothing to excise a dark reality embedded deep in the human heart.by Ilana Mercer

More Farm Murders - The Hidden Genocide Continues

Ignored by the media and hidden from the world which was encouraged to delight in the lovable vuvuzela tooting black South Africans during the recent World Cup matches, the violent, racist, genocide of that country's white population continues apace. The first being the murder of the Potgieter family at their farm in Lindley in the Free State. The farmer, his wife and their three year old daughter were brutally murdered. Attie Potgieter was slashed and hacked to death with a machete or panga and his wife and three year old daugther were dispatched, execution style, with bullets to the back of the head. It chills the blood to imagine what sort of mind can murder a three year old child in such a manner. Also chilling is the note left behind by the Potgieter family's killers which simply stated <a href="http://www.eyewitnessnews.co.za/articleprog.aspx?id=54335" target="_blank">“We have killed them. Mrs Marthie Erasmus, 63, was tied up on her bed and then the gang bludgeoned the defenceless woman to death with a 16 pound sledgehammer. Husband Chris Erasmus, also 63, was tied to his chair and brutally beaten about the face and eyes. However he survived the attack and managed to free himself after the attackers fled. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> If this was happening to any other race in any other country it would be world news. This high crime rate is experienced by the industry as economic sabotage,” said Agri-SA. In addition to the loss of commercial farmers, more than 1 million black African farm workers have become unemployed and have had to move their families to squatter camps. In total, approximately 5 million people have been displaced. Now the last of SA's white farmers are about to depart for greener pastures in Georgia, Eastern Europe. Watch Georgia go from strength to strength as South Africa sinks into poverty and starvation. <div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> <a href="http://cofcc.org/2010/10/exodus-of-thousands-of-white-south-african-farmers-could-be-near/">Plans for the resettlement of white farmers of South Africa to Georgia</a> </div> "Most would like to stay but they were being chased by crime, corruption, water pollution and an unfriendly government," deputy secretary Bennie Van Zyl said, adding that "no government department at this stage was not a threat to the farmer." "This is a great opportunity for farmers, because the government in Georgia knows that, without commercial farmers, the country can't go forward... commercial farmers are (a country's) biggest asset. It's a pity our government doesn't have this approach." Georgia needs expertise as it wants to uplift its agricultural sector which was destroyed by socialism and communism about 70 years ago.

These brutal killings – often accompanied by rape – are so rife that they merit only a few paragraphs in the local papers. On top of this, the richest country in Africa is being swept by an Aids epidemic, with some 11 per cent of its 48million population now infected with the HIV virus. Average life expectancy is just 50 years. The tensions are also beginning to show in the much-trumpeted harmony between black, white and coloured, as it was revealed this month that more than 3,000 white farmers have been murdered since President Mandela took power. Retired journalist Brian O’Hanlon, who has lived in scenic Hermanus, near Cape Town, for the past eight years, said: “I would not go near a black township and I would not expect the people from a black township to come in to the white areas. “There are murders every day but if you’re a resident you become inured to it. If you didn’t, you would probably have to go back to England or my native Ireland.” With the World Cup just four weeks away, many believe the organiser Fifa is now practically running the country in order to ensure that South Africa presents a clean, wholesome image to the rest of the world. Thousands of beggars and street children have been shipped out of Johannesburg and Cape Town and crammed into tin-hut settlements. An army of 44,000 police officers – more than a quarter of South Africa’s entire force – is dedicated solely to ensuring the safety of World Cup spectators. Some 8,500 of these officers will be wearing full body armour shipped in from France. Meanwhile football fans are being blitzed with advice on how to stay safe, with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office warning of “a very high level of crime”. Yet despite all the fanfare, even Archbishop Desmond Tutu, 78, was this week lamenting how crime and corruption were ruining his homeland. The Nobel Peace Prize winner said: “Something happened to us. It looks like we have lost our pride. It is not because of poverty. “We are prisoners in our homes. Look at what is happening to the farmers. But it is not only the farmers. You read something horrific almost every day. We should ask ourselves: ‘Hey, what is going on?'” For some, the constant menace of crime has become so traumatic that they’ve had no option but to quit the country. Since the end of apartheid, some 800,000 white South Africans out of a total of 4.4 million have emigrated, abandoning hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland. Mr O’Hanlon said: “You have to box clever and you mustn’t put yourself in a situation where there might be trouble. You mix with your own.” Almost every South African has some horror story to tell that has either occurred personally to them or to friends and family. These crime stories range from car-jackings at gunpoint – which are now so common they don’t even get a mention in the papers – to being pistol-whipped in your own home. Philip Oliver, 41, left South Africa three years ago for work reasons and now can only marvel at how free and easy life seems in the UK. Performance coach Mr Oliver, a father of one, says: “In South Africa you have to be constantly aware of the dangers of crime. I have to pinch myself now that I’m in Britain. It may sound perfectly normal but here I can walk from my car to my hotel without a care in the world. It’s an absolute delight. You could never do that in South Africa where you live with this kind of shadow of crime over your life.” He adds: “In Cape Town you can be living in an incredible apartment which looks over Table Mountain but you’re aware that it’s risky to walk there. It’s a heavy price to pay in South Africa but if that’s all you know, you accept it.” The most notorious of South Africa’s cities is Johannesburg, which is one of the hubs of organised crime. In the run-up to the World Cup, dealers are stockpiling huge quantities of cocaine and the amphetamine “tik”. Just near Johannesburg’s Soccer City stadium is the lawless ghetto of Diepsloot which is seeing four murders every week. A taxi driver was recently shot dead because he refused to hand over the equivalent of 50p in change. Vigilante squads now roam the streets while kangaroo courts dispense violent and summary justice. One British expat moved to Cape Town after seeing his Durban home ransacked for the third time. During one of these robberies he was tied up and blindfolded. The expat, speaking anonymously, said: “When South Africa won the right to host the World Cup, we thought this was gold but now we learn that for six weeks Fifa will run this country. The informal traders who thought they would make a killing cannot go anywhere near the stadiums. “Of course security is a priority, with the crime and theft rates the highest in the world. Petty crime will be at a high level. The other day in Cape Town and without any announcement, 250 police and armoured cars drove through the streets in a show of strength. It was laughable. The police in the cars were all overweight, their beer bellies hanging over their belts. They couldn’t have run 50 metres.” Seraj Jones, a senior sports writer with Media 24 in Cape Town, was equally dismissive of Fifa: “They are throwing their weight around this country, especially in terms of monitoring the ticket allocations. Nothing moves here without Fifa’s approval. But I’m not at all sure that the infrastructure is going to be finished on time. I can see it all as I come in to work every morning and I’d be amazed if the transport system was ready in four weeks.” Since 1994 the murder toll among South African farmers has been alarming, with 3,000 dead including recently white supremacist Eugene Terre’Blanche. Almost all were white Afrikaners and many were tortured before they were killed. One farmer, Manie Potgieter, was seconds from being shot dead by three armed raiders. Mr Potgieter, 30, was attacked at his farm in Vredefort, south of Johannesburg. He was tied up and forced to watch his wife Helena, 28, being stripped. “She was telling me in Afrikaans not to worry,” he said. I just prayed. The man said: ‘Listen you white b******. I have Aids. We are now going to rape your wife and give her Aids too. Then, we kill you.'” Luckily the attackers were disturbed and fled. Race relations have now deteriorated so much in South Africa that Julius Malema, the firebrand leader of the ANC’s Youth League, has been whipping up rallies with an old anti-apartheid struggle song which includes the words, “Shoot the Boer”. He caused further outrage by telling a BBC journalist: “Don’t come here with that white tendency” before throwing him out of a press conference. Mr Oliver, who moved from South Africa to Edinburgh, said: “You just get used to hearing about the violence and sometimes if you’re unlucky you experience it yourself. Of course you do all the usual things to stay safe. You’ll have burglar bars on the doors and windows as well as alarms and you’ll hire a private security firm to provide an armed response. “You’re also on constant alert when you’re out of your house, when you’re driving or parking your car. You have this natural awareness of what’s going on around you. But sometimes it’s not enough. “A couple I know from Johannesburg had five youths break into their house and their daughter was home alone. She was very distressed. That was the last straw. They were out of the country within weeks and ended up in the UK.” He added: “I don’t know many South Africans who are not schizophrenic about their love and hate for the place. If you could wave a magic wand and remove the crime then I’d go back there because it’s God’s own country.”

Imagine if Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, or any other politician in America publicly sang songs that said African Americans were dogs, that they were cowards that robbed society and that they should be killed—and then shrugged off criticism by saying the lyrics were just <a href="http://www.afrol.com/articles/35813">part of America’s heritage</a> and didn’t really mean anything. There would be an uproar—and rightly so. What if the president of the United States agreed? And he regularly whipped supporters into a frenzy by dancing and singing a song titled “<a href="http://www.newsweek.com/id/194586">Bring Me My Machine Gun</a>”? And what if the president was acting like this at a time when black Americans across the country were being hunted down and murdered because of their race? Human rights activists would be up in arms and the United Nations would be breathing down America’s neck for using hate speech to incite racial violence. There would be lawsuits, international arrest warrants, and very likely assassination attempts. America would be the pariah of the world. Yet, these are the very words and sentiments espoused by the two most powerful politicians in South Africa. And both are blatantly open about it. Meanwhile, South Africa’s white farmers are being murdered at appalling rates. Yet the world, and the United Nations—that supposed bastion of anti-discrimination—say little or nothing about it. Why? Because South Africa is supposed to be the poster nation for anti-racism and reconciliation. After all, the world came together in unity to oust the ruling white government in South Africa. So it is a bit embarrassing to find out that the oppressed have become the oppressors. In this politically correct world, apparently racism only works one way. But when the racial tension eventually explodes—and explode it will—who will be blamed? This question was rudely shoved to the forefront of South African society last week. Just months before the 2010 soccer World Cup that will see tens of thousands of international tourists descend upon Johannesburg, Cape Town and other cities, South Africans are reevaluating what 20-plus years of post-apartheid rule has done for the country. Are things really any better today? On April 3, Eugene Terre’Blanche, the former leader of the political militia movement that violently opposed the end of apartheid, was brutally <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/apr/04/eugene-terreblanche-south-african-white-supremacist">hacked to death</a>. His chopped remains were found scattered across his bed. The murder weapons—machete and wooden club—were left next to the bloody remains. According to reports, one of the accused said that Terre’Blanche had verbally abused him for years, and when he refused to pay him his wages (reported to be about $41), he just couldn’t take it anymore. According to most press reports, the murder was just a wage dispute gone wrong. But the fact that the murderers pulled down the old man’s pants to expose his naked mutilated body—an act previously used to dehumanize murdered white farmers—suggests that it was anything but a simple murder. Terre’Blanche’s death came at a particularly embarrassing time for South Africa, for two reasons. First, it was the latest in a string of high-profile, racially motivated attacks against white farmers in South Africa. Just <a href="http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_8064/is_20100328/ai_n52926589/">two weeks earlier</a>, Nigel Ralfe was milking his cows on his farm when four men marched into the yard asking to buy milk. When he replied that he had none to sell, they shot him twice and then pistol whipped him. They then dragged him to his house where his wife was bathing their three grandchildren. When his wife opened the door they shot her three times point blank. As the gang ripped apart the house, the bewildered children emerged from the bathroom to find their grandmother dying on her bed where she had collapsed. After stealing an old pistol, a pair of binoculars and a phone, the four men walked away. More white farmers were murdered in South Africa during just 2009 than have been in Zimbabwe since Robert Mugabe came to power. Since the end of apartheid, over <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8602347.stm">3,000 white farmers have been murdered</a>, according to the bbc. South Africa’s News24, on the other hand, says there have been <a href="http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/Politics/Farming-Most-dangerous-job-20060713">“only” 1,600 farmers killed</a> in attacks since 1991. Even if that figure is true, it would still make farming in South Africa one of the most dangerous professions in the world. White farmers are more than twice as likely to be killed as police officers, and far more likely to be killed than miners. Second, the killing of Terre’Blanche came only a few days after Julius Malema, the firebrand leader of Jacob Zuma’s African National Congress’s (anc’s) Youth League, whipped university students into a frenzy by repeatedly chanting “kill the boer, kill the boer” at a rally. “Kill the boer” is literally translated as “kill the farmer,” but is used to mean “kill the white farmers.” The rest of the song includes the phrases “the cowards are scared,” “these dogs are raping,” and “shoot, shoot … shoot the boer.” The phrases are reminiscent of the words “kill the cockroach,” which Hutus chanted as they slaughtered the Tutsis in Rwanda. But instead of censoring Malema for his hate speech, Zuma’s anc went to court to challenge an earlier court judgment that declared the lyrics as unconstitutional and unlawful. On April 3, Malema flew to Zimbabwe to meet Robert Mugabe and take part in lavish celebrations marking 30 years in power for the Zimbabwean president. Malema and Mugabe share the same vision. Malema is pushing to nationalize South Africa’s mining industry and is among those pushing for a controversial new policy to hasten the “redistribution” of white-owned land in South Africa—the same policies that turned Zimbabwe from a breadbasket of Africa into the continent’s biggest basket case. Like Zimbabwe, South Africa has now nationalized all water rights and mineral rights and is forcing companies to sell partial ownership to black people or organizations. The trouble facing South Africa’s white population looks set to intensify. The farmers may be the first to get run over, but all South Africans should worry. Just look at what has happened in virtually every country north of the border. Ezekiel 7:23-27 perfectly describe South Africa today. The Bible prophesies that so many bloody violent crimes will occur that they will be like links in a chain—one right after another. This passage even talks about people’s homes being taken away and conflict between nationalities. Conditions will get so bad in South Africa that eventually—in desperation—people will begin searching for God. They will cry out for Him to save them. But God says it will be futile because He is purposefully sending the punishment (for proof that this passage is referring to the nation of South Africa, read the book <a href="http://www.thetrumpet.com/index.php?page=book&b=61">The United States and Britain in Prophecy</a>). But there is hope for South Africa, and the whole world. Verse 27 also says that God is sending the punishment so that “they shall know that I am the Lord.” God does not want people to suffer. He loves all races and nationalities. And God wants people to be truly happy. But true peace and happiness can only come from obeying His laws and commandments. God wants the people of South Africa and the world to obey Him. If they would, blessings of peace and prosperity would result. A basic theme of the Bible is blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. Unfortunately, because of disobedience, the curses will keep on coming. The soccer World Cup is around the corner. As the intruders broke in, the farmer woke. He rushed to stop them, only to be shot twice in the chest. In his death throes he would have seen his killers and then his children standing over him, screaming and crying. The attackers, who were drug addicts, simply disappeared into the night. Cillier’s murder, at Christmas, was barely reported in the local press. It was, after all, everyday news. Death has stalked South Africa’s white farmers for years. The number murdered since the end of apartheid in 1994 has passed 3,000. In neighbouring Zimbabwe, a campaign of intimidation that began in 2000 has driven more than 4,000 commercial farmers off their land, but has left fewer than two dozen dead. The vulnerability felt by South Africa’s 40,000 remaining white farmers intensified earlier this month when Julius Malema, head of the African National Congress’s (ANC’s) youth league, opened a public rally by singing Dubula Ibhunu, or Shoot the Boer, an apartheid-era anthem, that was banned by the high court last week. Malema’s timing could hardly have been worse. Last weekend in the remote farming community of Colenso, in KwaZulu-Natal, Nigel Ralfe, 71, a dairy farmer, and his wife Lynette, 64, were gunned down as they milked their cows. He was critically injured; she died. That same day a 46-year-old Afrikaner was shot through his bedroom window as he slept at his farm near Potchefstroom. A few days later a 61-year-old was stabbed to death in his bed at a farm in Limpopo. The resurrection of Dubula Ibhunu, defended by senior ANC officials as little more then a sentimental old struggle song, has been greeted with alarm by Tom Stokes, of the opposition Democratic Alliance. He said the ANC’s continued association with the call to kill Boers could not be justified. “Any argument by the ANC that this song is merely a preservation of struggle literature rings hollow in the face of farming families who have lost wives, mothers and grandmothers,” he added. He was supported by Anton Alberts of the right-wing Freedom Front Plus party: “Malema’s comments are creating an atmosphere that is conducive to those who want to commit murder. He’s an accessory to the wiping out of farmers in South Africa.” Rossouw Cillier, Pieter’s brother, bristled as he pointed to the bullet holes in the panelled kitchen of the farmhouse near Ceres in the Western Cape. “They shot him through the fridge from the back door — the bullets came straight through here, into his heart. He never had a chance,” he said. A successful apple and pear grower, he believes his community is living on borrowed time: “More white farmers have been killed than British soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yes, we are at war here.” His brother’s farmhouse is now shuttered and empty. “I can’t spend time here. We’ll have to sell. This farm has been in our family for generations but it must go. Who’ll manage it? The children will never come back here. They held their own father as he died in front of them. Will they ever get over that?” As we walked across the orchard, fruit destined for the shelves of Tesco and Sainsbury’s in the UK was still being picked. A tractor passed a 10ft cross erected in honour of the murdered farmer. “It lights up at night,” Rossouw said. “My brother was a religious man. It’s all that’s left of him here.” Across South Africa many farmers feel endangered. In Northern Province a tribute has been created beneath an enormous sign with the stark Afrikaans word “plaasmoorde” — farm killings. Thousands of white wooden crosses have been planted across a mountainside, one for each fallen farmer. Recently the government’s department of rural development has been airing proposals to nationalise productive farmland as a “national asset”. Critics claim it is designed to deflect criticism from the ruling ANC’s failures. “It’s a lot easier talking about nationalising farms than building decent houses, making clean water come out of taps or honouring promises to redistribute farm plots to millions of landless poor,” said a spokesman for AgriSA, the farmers’ union. On the outskirts of Ceres there are few groceries in the township store — tins of pilchards, baked beans, some dried biscuits. A group of teenage boys sit on the burnt-out remains of a Ford Escort. This is where Cillier’s killers gathered, in a shebeen, a drinking club, where they fortified themselves with cheap hooch before they set off to rob him. They escaped with nothing. According to Rossouw Cillier the most telling detail is that his brother was unarmed when they attacked. “If we brandish a weapon, we’ll go to prison, not them. What did they gain from this murder? Dairy farmer critically injured, wife tragically killed in Colenso KZN 71-year-old farm owner, Nigel Ralfe, was critically injured while his 64-year-old wife, Lynette was tragically killed. It's believed that the gang members entered the farm at around 6pm pretending to be interested in buying some milk. They then allegedly pulled out their firearms and shot the farm owner twice. The farmer was assaulted and during the assault he said they kept asking him for money, and he informed them that they didn't have any cash on the farm. They ransacked the house but nothing much seems to have been taken. Lynette, who'd come outside to see what was happening, was then also shot. She sadly died at the scene. This is the third attack on farmers in one weekend. On Saturday night, a 46-year-old farmer was shot through his bedroom window while sleeping on his Rietfontein farm near Potchefstroom. The man was taken to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital in a critical condition while police search for those involved. On Friday, 65-year-old Jan Wheeler was murdered outside Marble Hall in Limpopo. His killers gained access into the farmer's house by breaking the back door. They overpowered Wheeler in the bedroom and repeatedly stabbed him with a sharp object. The men took a few electrical household appliances and ran away. The DA member of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature, Tom Stokes said he believed the issue of farm killings was aggravated by [Malema's] singing of struggle songs that advocated the killing of farmers. He was referring to Malema singing "kill the boer" song last week at a meeting while addressing students at the University of Johannesburg. This caused an uproar as some people viewed it as advocating the killing of farmers. "Malema's actions, along with subsequent attempts by the ANC's Gwede Mantashe to justify his conduct, stand in stark contrast to the pain and suffering being experienced by this family and the many others before them," said Stokes. "No deep thoughts are needed to realise that Malema's comments are creating an atmosphere which is conducive for those who want to commit murder...he is an accessory to the wiping out of farmers in South Africa." The argument by the ANC that the song was merely a preservation of struggle literature, rang hollow in the face of a family that had lost a wife, mother and grandmother, said Stokes, referring to Sunday night's farm murder in KwaZulu-Natal. The Freedom Front Plus was in the meantime preparing a report on farm murders and Malema's role in it. This will be given to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. "We will also investigate the possibility to lay charges against Malema at the International Criminal Court, or in the least make the court aware of a growing phenomenon of the victimisation of minorities and specifically the Afrikaner in South Africa," said Alberts. For this incoming 'One hundred per cent Zulu Boy', as the South African President styles himself when he has an election to win, presents unique challenges of planning for the courtiers. The formal announcement of the state visit primly notes that the President will be accompanied during his three-day stay at Buckingham Palace by 'his wife Mrs Thobeka Madiba Zuma'. She is also one of the estimated ten women with whom the libidinous Zuma has sired the 20 children he acknowledges to be his own. On top of that, Zuma has paid lobolo - a sort of tribal deposit on a future bride - to the families of at least two more potential wives. On a recent visit to South Africa, I was told very confidently by a man who knows the inner workings of the government that Zuma's true tally is actually 35 children, including a set of twins with a woman from Ukraine. One thing is clear. Jacob Zuma could not be more different from the man in whose long shadow he must walk - South Africa's great and first democratic leader, Nelson Mandela. But to go back to the hard-pressed Palace courtiers in charge of protocol, how can they prevent disaster in the diplomatic minefield of tomorrow night's state banquet? At these state dinners it is traditional to invite leaders of the 'arts community' to break up the stodgy ranks of diplomats and establishment bigwigs who tend to get the bulk of the invitations. But will theatrical greats such as Sir Ian McKellen be comfortable breaking bread with a man who has described same-sex marriage as 'a disgrace to the nation and to God', and who boasted that when he was a young man, any sensible homosexual would have got out of his way because: 'I would have knocked him out.' Will our bishops want to nibble canapes with a man who won the South African election last year by appearing at rallies and singing the old ANC guerilla war song: 'Bring Me My Machine Gun'? At the time, this was interpreted by many South Africans as a grotesque disavowal of Mandela's exhortation to his supporters to throw their weapons into the sea. 'To deny her sex would have been tantamount to rape.' Knowing that the woman he had imposed himself upon was HIV positive and that he had not used a condom, Zuma took a postcoital shower, believing that would protect him against the virus. The Foreign Office expects the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to submit themselves to an average of only two incoming state visits a year, so why was it thought necessary to honour Zuma in this way? It is not as though South African leaders have been strangers to Buckingham Palace in recent years. President Mandela came on a state visit two years after winning the first democratic election in 1994, and returned again 18 months ago during his 90th birthday celebrations. Thabo Mbeki, Zuma's predecessor as president, came over with his wife on a state visit in 2001. Which all means there was certainly no diplomatic need for Britain to mark Zuma's installation in power last year. During almost 60 years on the throne, the Queen has learned she broadly has to do what the Foreign Office tells her, so she throws open Buckingham Palace and pins medals on the chest of any murderous dictator the government wishes to suck up to. Zuma may not have matched the grotesque misrule of Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, who was welcomed to the Palace in 1994. But he tends to side with the mobs who have invaded the white-owned, productive farms rather than those who used to produce the country's food.'Europeans often ignore the fact that Mugabe is very popular among Africans. In their eyes, he has given blacks their country back after centuries of colonialism,' Zuma has said. 'The people love him, so how can we condemn him?' No wonder that affluent South Africans, black and white, are now so concerned by the course South Africa is taking under Zuma, and fearful they are on a trajectory towards becoming the continent's next basket case. It seems utterly misguided to have invited Zuma at a time when it is becoming ever more evident that South Africa is being turned into an organised kleptocracy. With timing that seems suspiciously fortunate given the looming state visit, the government this month announced a deal with British Aerospace to end investigations into whether bribes were paid in several recent contracts. This is fortunate for Zuma - he was deeply implicated in the bribes paid by European defence contractors, including British Aerospace, over a gigantic 1998 South African arms deal. But Zuma may not be forgiven for his flamboyant sex life. Having been acquitted of rape, then mobbed by jubilant supporters, Zuma believed he was beyond criticism. Yet he now finds himself in political difficulty after the recent revelation of the birth of the 20th acknowledged child, to a woman in Durban. This broke a deal he made with the party that even if he could not conquer his libido, he would at least behave with discretion, and stop impregnating casual sexual partners. Like the 19th-century missionaries who attempted to stamp it out, the ruling ANC party disapproves of polygamy, partly because it reinforces white men's stereotypes of Africans as somehow uncivilised. But Aids is the much more compelling explanation for why Zuma finds himself in trouble. With an HIV infection rate feared to be close to 30 per cent, and with South Africa's rural areas overwhelmed by hundreds of thousands of Aids orphans, Zuma's manic promiscuity is setting a terrible example and has become a matter of grave public concern. The ANC was forced, in a formal statement, to acknowledge the level of public disquiet about Zuma's conduct. And there is now even talk at the highest level of the ANC that Zuma might not be allowed a second term as president. Since Thabo Mbeki (who had demented ideas about Aids) was forced from office, the government has made progress in changing the sexual attitudes of black South Africans. Zuma has blown a hole in this campaign for the sake of his nights of passion. No doubt the guests tomorrow night in London will be too polite to raise such delicate matters with the guest of honour. But millions of South Africans, viewing television images of the Zulu Boy at Buckingham Palace, will wonder why the Queen is honouring a man who back home is rapidly becoming a very bad joke.
