<br /><br /><em><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">By </span></em><a href="http://sarahmaidofalbion.blogspot.com/search/label/Poetry.%20Mike%20Wilson"><u style="background-color: #d9ead3;"><b><span style="background-color: white; color: #888888; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><em>Mike Wilson</em></span></b></u></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: large;">S</span>outh Africa</strong> – the name conjures up visions of white colonialism, riches of diamonds and gold, beautiful cities, beautiful people, rich farmlands and technical innovation.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A strong and vibrant country with a modern army and air force and an air of expectancy, handed down from Afrikaner father to son, that their land would be the greatest in the whole continent.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br /><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6Gm7IzfqWos" width="640"></iframe><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well it does to me and this is <strong>what the country used to be like</strong> when I lived there 40 years ago. Johannesburg was a thriving metropolis of great buildings and the frenzied rush of people going about their affairs much like any other major city in the world.<br /><br />It was such a powerhouse of people, ideas and innovations and the strong Boer mentality over rode all.<br /><br />Today Johannesburg appears to be a run down shanty town with decrepit buildings, boarded up windows, filthy garbage riddled streets and squalor everywhere.<br /><br /><strong>What happened?</strong></span><br />  <br /><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LW6lOdxqSUE" width="640"></iframe><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The infamous pass laws were rescinded in the early 90’s and <strong>the black man took over the country</strong>.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This utopia, this land of riches, this gemstone in the crown of the continent is now like so many other African nations, a struggling mix of different tribes coming to terms with life in the 21st century.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Unfortunately for these black Africans, they have not been able to rise above tribal culture and are cursed with a background that has not reached the stage which would enable them to mentally grasp all the requirements that are needed to administer a complex and busy country.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">From being the underdog to being the dominant force today has created major schisms within the overall South African society.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There is an <strong>ongoing payback mentality</strong> that encourages blacks to take from the whites in many different ways. In one way the houses of white people are regularly burgled and effects stolen. This is not done covertly and gangs of blacks regularly threaten households. In another way there is what is now called ‘<strong>Black Empowerment</strong>’ or BEE where blacks are given <strong>preference over whites</strong> for available jobs. This stupid practice gives the unskilled African peasant direct involvement in manning the infrastructure support that runs the country. As a consequence the major power supply company Eskom is unable to maintain its equipment as most of the trained skilled white staff are no longer employed. This has caused frequent power supply problems so that they had to rely on power shedding or in other words maintaining power to select parts of their industry rather than all consumers who need it.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The current youth leader of the ANC, Julius Malema, keeps telling his followers to <strong>kill the Boer</strong>, one man one bullet. He has recently been found guilty of inciting racial hatred and fined 50,000 Rand for his troubles. Not that this has changed his tactic one iota and on a recent trip to Zimbabwe he went out of his way to repeat the phrase to all who would listen.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Over 3,000 white farmers have been murdered since the ANC took over in a deliberate government policy to get whites to give up their land. From being a rich farming country under white rule South Africa now faces the prospect of importing food to feed the masses. Many whites claim that there is now <strong>a policy of genocide levelled against Boer farmers</strong> as a result of the ANC policy to grab land. This is the same process that started in Zimbabwe and will have the same result.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">On a recent trip to Zimbabwe there were talks between Mugabe and Malema on how to take over the remaining land <strong>still in the hands of white minorities</strong>. Now there is also talk of the mining industry which made SA very rich, being nationalised for the benefit of the black politicians.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Law and order is a thing of the past now. There is no law of protection for whites and no laws for the blacks to abide by. Even <em>Jacob Zuma</em> the current leader of the ANC had a number of <strong>rape and corruption charges</strong> levelled against him by the then law and order anti- corruption team called the Scorpions. The ANC had an easy answer to all this, they simply disbanded the unit and the charges were dropped!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In fact many of the black policemen supposedly upholding what little law and order is left, are themselves involved in burglarising, raping and armed robberies. <strong>The number of deaths of whites has been unrecorded</strong> although the litany of deaths occurs on a daily basis.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Many people felt that with the advent of black rule and empowerment blacks and whites would be able to sit together and maintain a strong and prosperous country that would continue to be the envy of Sub Saharan Africa. Today the situation is so bad that the country is becoming another Zimbabwe and whites are powerless to stop it but can only look on in horror as their once great country crumbles about them.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Due to the political process of giving to the black at the expense of the white there are now <strong>450,000 white people living below the poverty line</strong> in shanty towns around the country. The majority of these people are from Afrikaans backgrounds who would normally be the underclass looking after fairly menial jobs, railway workers, cleaners etc. Since those jobs are now taken by blacks these unfortunate men, women and children have no recourse but to become part of the homeless generation, forgotten by more affluent whites as well as the black government. <strong>Even some soup kitchens that were set up by well minded individuals have been closed by bureaucrats who say that the whites must fend for themselves.</strong> It’s only the help from other whites that keeps these unfortunate people with some form of subsistence.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">White liberalism is to blame for the problems affecting South Africa and the fall of the white Governments pre 1994. The world saw a country with blacks being oppressed and demanded change for the betterment of the black population. Just like Rhodesia several years earlier. Today, who has benefited from these changes? Certainly not the blacks as the majority of them are now far worse off than ever they were under white rule. Again, the classic example is Zimbabwe under the megalomaniac Mugabe who has robbed his country blind whilst 98% of his followers still live in shantytowns without the benefits of modern civilisation and in abject poverty.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Every one of the ruling politicians in South Africa lives a life of wealth and privilege, with <strong>the latest cars, biggest houses in the best suburbs</strong> etc., yet their followers are very much worse off than they were when the whites ruled the country. </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Apart from the trashing of cities which have become sleazy rubbish dumps the hospital services are almost non existent. It’s hard to accept that the country that pioneered the first heart transplant under Dr. Christian Barnard has now a run down medical service which once used to be the envy of the world.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Everything about the country today smacks of total incompetence with inmates running the asylum for the rest of the inmates who just have no idea what is going on.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="http://elliotlakenews.wordpress.com/2010/04/18/eugene-terreblanche-last-interview/">The murder of Eugene Terreblanche</a> may be just the last nail in the coffin of apathy that has affected the white liberals in this broken country.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Indeed, apathy is probably the correct word to describe how the rest of the world views this former nation. It just seems that the power brokers amongst civilised nations are just sitting on the sidelines waiting for the continent to implode before they go back in perhaps 40 years time or so, and pick up the pieces once more. Although by that time the Chinese will have probably got in first and blacks will have a far stronger, stricter and nastier <strong>overseer</strong> than the whites ever were.</span><br /><br />

ANCYL Website Hacked

<p><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The website of South Africa’s ANC Youth League (ANCYL) was hacked last Wednesday afternoon, in what some believe is the start of a much larger cyber-war in the country.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Computer news website </span><a href="http://memeburn.com/2011/03/anc-youth-league-website-hacked/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #a00004;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><em>membrum.com</em> reports</span></span></span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> the hackers gained administrative access to the site. A fake press release by ANCYL leader Julius Malema announcing his resignation from the political organization because he “had made a fool of [him]self,” among other “essential” reasons, was posted on the front page.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">“The hacker then went on to expose the site’s directory structure, systematically deleting core config files (see screenshot below) before — we suspect — a backup was implemented,” <em>membrum</em> reports.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The attack happened hours before Malema was set to give a radio interview on Metro Drive FM. ANCYL leader Tsotsi Malema made an appearance, to the delight of the delegates who were paid large sums of money to attend.<br /><br />The festival, held under the theme "Let's Defeat Imperialism" i.e "lets not only kill the Boers - let's also drive all Whites out of South Africa", was being hosted by the NYDA in partnership with the World Federation of Democratic Youth. </span></p><p><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">A total of R69m had been budgeted for the event. R68 million of this would go towards Tsotsi Malema and the organisers. Of this amount R40m had come from the National Lotteries Board.</span><br /></p>

I’m not an Ltd.”<br /><br />He said NYDA had been approached by the company but that it had failed to deliver and so was not assisting in any way in the 10-day festival. Lungisa said the company, owned by members of the ANC Youth League’s national provincial council, did not have enough capacity.<br /><br />It has also emerged that Global Interface Consulting was not registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office. But Lungisa said it was not his responsibility to see to it that the company was registered.<br /><br />“We support people who start initiatives. It doesn’t necessarily mean that if you’re not registered then you can’t work with us because we… must empower the youth.”<br /><br />NYDA reportedly had advertised a contract for an events management company only on August 30, giving interested bidders just 10 days to put in proposals. The contract was on October 29.<br /><br />The "Let's defeat imperialism" festival got off to a slow start with some teething problems on Monday. Many delegates were not attending sessions but rather playing games in Pretoria.<br /><br />The major problem was food, then transport. Some people complained that they were being mistreated and had gone for days without food.<br /><br />Awarded Lungisa, however, hit back. “This is not called a wine and food festival. People will not get a three-course meal. There’s food for people to eat, but no one is going to die after this festival,” he said.<br /><br />In addition, at least four Moroccan delegates were injured in what is believed to be political infighting between them and delegates from Western Sahara. A camera belonging to a delegate from Iraq was allegedly stolen yesterday.<br /><br />But Lungisa defended the anti-imperialism-themed festival, particularly with regard to apparent widespread kissing among delegates. “The kissing game is going to continue,” he said. “They are not in a prison. They are part of this festival. We need to provide an opportunity for exchange.”<br /><br />The number of people attending workshops grew yesterday, in contrast to the scene outside, where groups of mostly South Africans were singing and dancing. Lungisa defended this behaviour, saying South Africa was a nation of song and dance.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the R40 million granted by the National Lotteries Board to the festival was double the amount it gave to the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup. And an amount "greater than the entire annual budget for the Cotlands orphanage"<br /><br />According to the Lotto's website it is required to distribute 45% of its funds to charities; 22% to arts, culture and national heritage and 5% for miscellaneous purposes.<br /><br /><strong><span style="color:#999999;">Wasting taxpayers' money - again, still, whatever!<br /></span></strong><br />The presidency promised R29m to host the nine-day left-wing youth festival themed "Let's defeat imperialism" but this appeared to be far too little. NYDA Chairman, Andile Lungisa, had been reported as saying they need closer to R370m to cover their costs.<br /><br />And Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies has revealed that his department also pledged R300 000 towards the festival budget and paid R190 288 for an exhibition stand.<br /><br />Cosatu and the DA both called for an investigation into the grant and a full audit of how the people’s money from the National Lotteries Board and the government was spent.<br /><br />It issued a statement yesterday deploring the reported shambles at the festival in which speakers were not confirmed and did not arrive, seven out of 18 seminars on Tuesday were cancelled and visitors complained of “bad food, a lack of transport and poor co-ordination of accommodation arrangements”.<br /><br />Several dodgy regimes were included in the participants list - North Korea and Zimbabwe is among them.<br /></span></p>

World Communist Youth Front to Meet in South Africa

Instead, it is now going to be spending nearly R30 million on a conference being hosted by a radical global youth organisation, of which the ANC Youth League are members.<br /><br />This is a conference that has repeatedly been held in radical, oppressive states - in recent years, host cities have included Pyongyang, North Korea; Havana, Cuba; and Caracas, Venezuela. </span></p><p><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">Member parties who make up this organisation include the ZANU-PF Youth League from Zimbabwe, and the youth league of the Workers Party of North Korea.<br /><br />The theme of this year's conference is "Let's defeat imperialism", and topics for seminars include "The builders of the anti-imperialist media are fighters against lies and manipulation!" and "Solidarity with [North] Korea".<br /><br />According to the event's programme, President Zuma will be attending activities on day four of the event. </span></p><p><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">That the state, the Presidency, and President Zuma himself, should be legitimising an event of this nature, and ploughing state resources into it, beggars belief and constitutes electioneering at the state's expense.<br /><br />The National Youth Development Agency should be spending every cent available to it to promote opportunities for all South Africans, and not on lavish banquets and radical gatherings that in no way advance the cause of the nation's youth. The Agency's continued existence has resulted in a significant opportunity cost for the three million unemployed young South Africans. The NYDA's R400 million annual budget could be used to fund initiatives that promise to make a much greater impact on youth development.<br /><br />The NYDA, however, has become terminally compromised. The NYDA was increasingly becoming an employment agency for Julius Malema's ANC Youth League, following revelations that its provincial boards have been filled with youth league cadres. President Zuma should disband this R400-million entity, whose only purpose seems to be to placate the ruling party's Youth League.</span></p><p> </p>

SA's Chief Bully threatens to bring down Twitter Empire

The ANC youth league issued a grammatically bizarre statement calling for the <em>"closer"</em> of Twitter on Wednesday, which was quickly filleted by critics who then distributed it online.<br /><br />The league's notoriously bad spelling led one reporter Malema had called "bloody bastard" at a news conference, to reply on the blogging site: "ANCYL statement called for 'closer of Twitter' following <em>'cretation'</em> of fake accounts. Was that so we'd know it was the real Malema?"<br /><br />Fake accounts of famous people offering phoney Tweets known as "Phweets" have become a mainstay of Twitter, prompting the blogging service to offer the option of officially verifying who's who. But the sensitive ANCYL launched a tirade signed by the league's spokesman Floyd Shuvambu.<br /><br />Floyd the Maverick lashed out at all the online Juju-haters.<br /><br />"There are computer hackers who have created twitter accounts in the name of the President <em>[the prince-ling not HRH Msholozi]</em> and recurrently posting misleading messages <em>[sic]</em>."<br /><br />"The ANCYL has in <em>[sic]</em> more than one occasion reported these impersonators and hackers, yet no action has been taken against them by the Twitter administrators. <em>[What? Bloody agents!]</em> We will now approach the relevant authorities to report these hackers and call for the closer <em>[Closure, perhaps? Or do you really want Twitter closer?]</em> of Twitter, if its administrators are not able to administer reports for violation of basic human rights and integrity."<br /><br />Ah yes, because it worked so well when you tried to shut down Nando's. And Nedbank. And <em>"the cockroach"</em> Zille.<br /><br />The mockery that followed online prompted @Floyd_Shivambu's to tweet back: "Stop mocking my spelling. When we close Twitter you won't be laughing anymore." This was replied to by @TheJuliusMalema, who tweeted: "Don't you come heer to my internet with your white tendencies." After which Mr Shivambu replied: "I will tell our President it is worse than we thought."<br /><br />"We'll trace them… that is very possible to do," said the guy who couldn't seem to understand that an email address is all it takes to set up a Twitter account. "We don't want to expose our strategy on how we will get them <em>[largely because we haven't figured it out yet]</em>. But we will get them and we are going to report them to the police."</span></p><p><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;">Ah, yes, because that worked so well with <a href="http://www.wheels24.co.za/News/General_News/SAPS-on-the-hunt-for-Pigspotter-20100915">PigSpotter.</a></span></p><p><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"> Of course, a little tongue-lashing never did deter the kiddies club. Their retort on discovering that angry threats were followed by even more online mocking was… well… predictable.<br /><br />Followed by the obligatory racism: "We are sure, when they get exposed, you will see it is white people. Reactionary, rightwing, white people."<br /><br />Floyd sees white people. It's a sixth sense. It goes without saying that they are all rightwing racists. Unfortunately it prevents him from seeing blacks also use computers and laugh at antics of bumbling idiots.<br /><br />By yesterday, new Malema accounts were flourishing online. "Juju Malema" was fairly typical of the tone, introducing its author by asking: "Who do you think you are? Are you not aware that I am Julius, the president of the ANC Youth League? I know some of you hate me."<br /><br />Malema's abrasive manner and brash lifestyle –his luxury cars and exclusive night-clubbing are routinely dismissed as evidence of continuing racism – has made him a hero to some in South Africa and a jester to many.<br /><br />Press freedom is under serious attack in the Rainbow Nation. Two major pieces of legislation are being considered which would give the government sweeping powers to silence outlets it does not like and criminalise much investigative journalism.<br /><br />Malema's political importance has been underlined recently as the leadership backed down over its effort to discipline him for publicly contradicting party positions. Zuma faces a possible leadership challenge in the next year and seems unwilling to offend the youth wing or its outspoken leader.<br /><br />The fake tweets<br /><br />@Julius_Malema Not doing anything today because I am still babalaas. From what was arguably one of the greatest triumphs of sporting capitalism in the world, the country is increasingly being squeezed between groups that either believe Marx, Lenin and Trotsky were right or that Venezuela's Hugo Chavez is the world's greatest living man. And being bullied into believing these are only two options on the table. </span></strong>By BRANKO BRKIC.</span></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 130%;">The last full week of August 2010 brought firm displays of power and determination by two antipodes within the ruling tripartite alliance: At one pole, the public servants' strike raged across the country, accompanied by ugly scenes of dehumanising stupidity, and being greatly strengthened by Cosatu's Zwelinzima Vavi's threat to stop SA's heartbeat. At the other pole, safely ensconced behind menacing bodyguards and security officers, ANC Youth League officials and national general council delegates plotted their way to greater influence of their own; influence that would result in changing of SA's Constitution to bring their Chavez-like plans to reality, as well as to ensure hastening their own ascent to power.<br /><br />As we are writing this, President Zuma has ordered his relevant ministers to return to the negotiating table to break the strike deadlock, a move that may have been designed to bolster his weakened decision-making credentials. Still, sitting somewhere in the middle, almost nobody believes he would be asked by his own people to lead them for another term.<br /><br />It appears that we are about to hit a fork in the road, and both directions offer a lousy future.<br /><br />And yet, not everything is necessarily definite. Depending on how the events of the next 30 days or so play out, SA could be in for a surprise or two. The picture of our future is still developing.<br /><br />But before we continue talking about what will paint that picture, and perhaps to understand the process better, let's look at the events that led to the destruction of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, whose long-time leader, Broz Tito, died in 1980 after leading the country and his party since 1945. In 1985, the communist cell of Belgrade elected a new boss, a little-known banker named Slobodan Milosevic. And as had been the case many times before, Milosevic became leader of Serbian communists in 1987, as his best friend and mentor, Ivan Stambolic ascended to the post of president of Serbia.<br /><br />But in the same year, Milosevic, a career communist until then, turned nationalist, split with the official line and demanded an urgent and forceful resolution of Kosovo's Albanian separatist problem. Where he encountered a problem at party level, he steamrollered the opposition, including his own boss and best friend, Stambolic. In the best populist tradition, while controlling the press completely, he stoked up people's feelings of righteous anger and then organised so called “people's revolutions” to replace the leadership of the provinces he needed to put into his column. (You are completely free to draw parallels with one Julius Malema's consolidation-of-power tactics) His plan was pretty sound: He was to mobilise and organise his forces to become a majority compared to the “enemy faction” from Croatia and Slovenia, before the 14th Congress of the Yugoslav Communist Party in January 1990. He completed his master plan well before that date.<br /><br />And his domination of the party's congress was total. His people came to power, his policies became federal policies. At that moment, he thought, he was in control of the whole country.<br /><br />Except that Croatian and Slovenian communists simply couldn't and didn't want to stay in the party dominated by the polarizing and uncompromising figure Milosevic was. So they pulled out of the Federal party, effectively ending its existence.<br /><br />By the end of the 1990, there were free elections in every Yugoslavian province and the communists were still clinging to power only in Serbia, after an election campaign marred by violence and intimidation. Suddenly, Milosevic's master plan, so brilliantly executed, meant nothing anymore. His only way of thinking, through communist party apparatus, was simply outdated and no longer applicable to the entire country. So he turned to his last set of friends, the heavily-ideological Yugoslav Army for help in stopping the secession of Croatia and Slovenia.<br /><br />The result was the bloodiest war in post-WWII Europe.<br /><br />So why, you may ask, do we dedicate so much space to a loser politician in charge of a perpetually losing nation? Well, history is there to teach us something rather painful in this case.<br /><br />The ANC and its partners are built very much in the same way, and on the same understanding of the liberation movement's moral righteousness and total infallibility as was the Yugoslav communist party. As any communist party, for that matter. The same system of deployment wrought incalculable damage to country's economy. The same near-total blindness to global developments and civilisational gains. The very same claims of exceptionalism. Especially where communist parties are concerned, history can teach a lot. The current antagonism within the tripartite alliance is a sure sign of a party that was running the country having gone unchallenged for way too long. So long, in fact, that the original idea around which the organisation was built has been long-relegated to largely fictional self-congratulatory statements about how great the country is and how well everyone lives. (Repeat after us: We have successfully completed the SABC's transformation from the state broadcaster into a public broadcaster.) No, the glue that holds every organisation that has near total power is just that, total power. And if one side in the ruling alliance does not enjoy that power, the organisation will eventually have to undergo a major, sometimes crippling and always painful make-over.<br /><br />So it is important to understand current events in the Cosatu – ANC – Youth League maelstrom through this historical perspective. Cosatu and the Youth League are motoring in completely opposite directions at full speed. Cosatu wants more socialism, Youth League chooses to follow an even worse path of cheap populism. But what is important to understand is that what happens within the ANC proper in the following weeks will substantially define the future of South Africa. By orchestrating his total domination over the Youth League and with his renewed push for his own agenda, Malema has pulled the wires to the point of breaking. And if his allies in the ANC leadership use the national general council to pull ever so slightly more in the same direction, it may render the alliance null and void, very much the same way as Milosevic did in 1990. In other words, if successful in taking over the ANC, Malema and company will probably win the battle, but lose the war.<br /><br />Still, it is not an easy task being a Cosatu leader these days. On one side, one has to satisfy the raging members regardless of the waning popular support, and on the other, one has to find another way of attacking the ANC without explicitly stating that the alliance is no more. Vavi and company have a painful choice to make these days, one of becoming the power themselves or not. And if Malema's line wins at the national general council, that choice will probably be made for them. He also made derogatory references to whites in the media, the opposition, and in commerce and industry.<br /><br />"I must never surrender to these Mickey Mouses, I must fight on," he said in reference to media probes into the R140 million in tenders awarded to businesses to which he was linked. He said he was motivated by the "ruthless killing by the whites on a committed revolutionary" (sic) - a reference to slain SACP leader Chris Hani.<br /><br />Daring the SA Revenue Service to send police to arrest him if it was found that he or his companies had not paid tax, as was recently reported, Malema said: "I'm a law-abiding citizen of this country. I am not above the law. If there is any crime that I have committed, let me be arrested.<br /><br />"But I can tell you now there is nobody who can arrest me, because I did nothing wrong.<br /><br />"I will never retreat. I will fight in the spirit of Peter Mokaba."<br /><br />Mokaba's repeated use of his signature chant in the early 1990s unleashed a storm of controversy as it was interpreted as inciting violence against Afrikaners.<br /><br />In a swipe at Cosatu and frayed alliance relations, Malema said he did not need general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi's permission to toyi-toyi.<br /><br />"Vavi doesn't hold permits for revolutionaries in South Africa," said Malema, who has been accused of being a tenderpreneur - getting rich through state contracts won through well-placed connections.<br /><br />He scoffed at Vavi, who last year said he would step down from Cosatu to make himself available for a leadership position in the ANC.<br /><br />"He (Vavi) said he was going to the national executive committee of the ANC... because he doesn't understand the ANC very well, he wants to start from the top.<br /><br />"We say to him, go to your branch."<br /><br />Only President Jacob Zuma - backed by the league - was guaranteed to have a second term in 2012, Malema said. Anyone "wanting to survive in the ANC" should support Zuma.<br /><br />Opposition parties weren't spared either. He needs to become more positive, because so many people listen to him. The company is listed as "In Business".<br /><br />In the morning, Malema told reporters in Johannesburg: "Since my election as president of the ANC Youth League in 2008, I instructed my lawyers to process my resignations from all these corporations and companies... when I was based in Limpopo province."<br /><br />Malema came under fire in the past few days from newspapers reporting that he had a lavish lifestyle bankrolled by government contracts to companies he held an interest in.<br /><br />Weekend reports stated that SGL Engineering Projects had won contracts of over R140 million from local governments in Limpopo, where the company was based.<br /><br />The SA Company database had Malema on Monday listed as not only being a director SGL but also of three other companies, all of them closed corporations.<br /><br />He was the sole member of 101 Junjus Trading, appointed on January 23, 2007.<br /><br />The second company he was involved in as director was Blue Nightingale Trading 61. The list showed him as being appointed director January 19, 2006.<br /><br />Both these companies were still in business.<br /><br />Malema was also listed as co-director of Ever Roaring Investments with Mathias Mathews Mathabatha, Mmalehu Onicca Kwakwa, Nomvula Pamela Mhlari and Treasure Poseletso Kekana.<br /><br />Malema was appointed director on September 8, 2006, and was still listed as "active".<br />The database showed resigning from only one company - Nkgape Mining Investments - as director. This was on April 12, 2006.<br /><br />Butterworths' website describes the SA Company Search database is the entire database of companies and close corporations as supplied by the Company and Intellectual Property Registration Office, a division within the Department of Trade and Industry.<br /><br />The database is updated monthly. According to the website, it was last updated in February 2010.<br /><br />Malema could not be reached for comment on Monday afternoon.<br /><br />In the morning he said his lawyers had confirmed that he was no longer a director of any company.<br /><br />"They re-assured me that they had removed me."<br /><br />Asked about this in the afternoon, Malema's lawyer Tumi Mokwena said he had received the instruction from Malema to terminate the directorships.<br /><br />"This happened somewhere in 2008. He said he did not want to have an interest in any company any longer."<br /><br />Mokwena said Malema gave his lawyers special power of attorney to handle the matter.<br /><br />The fact that Malema was still listed as a director of SGL would be investigated, Mokwena said.<br /><br />ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu said: "He (Malema) gave the orders to the lawyers, whether the database was updated is not our problem."<br /><br />He said he took exception to the fact that a journalist who did not attend the morning briefing contacted him about the issue.<br /><br />"You are out of order. Let me tell you, I do not owe you any answer, to be honest. I am not accountable to you... I am accountable to the ANCYL and ANC. My organisations have never raised any concerns about those things".<br /><br />Malema went on to say "there is no law that says politicians can't be businessmen".<br /><br />ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu declined to comment on the story, saying he hasn't seen the paper yet.<br /><br />"I can't comment on things I haven't seen even if you can explain (the story). Which means once you've given everything belonging to Zuma to the president the rest - surely - must belong to Julius Malema, not Ceaser because he's already had his share.<br /><br />But don't discount the Jesus reference either because like Christ who turned water into wine Malema has turned a R20,000 a month salary into :<br /><br /></span></span><ul><li><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">Two multimillion-rand homes - both of which he bought for cash. The other is a mansion he bought in Polokwane in 2007 for R1m.<br /><br />The house in Sandown is in Silvela Road and the Deeds Office indicates that he bought it for R36m. But according to the previous owner, the house was sold for R3,6m.<br /><br />The Sandown house has been described as luxurious, with three bedrooms, an office, a TV room, a lounge, a pool and a large garden.<br /><br />It is the same house in which Malema held a controversial house-warming party in September last year.<br /><br />A police reservist said at the time that he was assaulted by the youth league leader. Neighbours complained about the noise and mess that Malema's party had caused. It was a sophisticated bash. YFM DJ Oskido provided the music, and guests were treated to R700-a-bottle Johnnie Walker Gold Label whisky and Moët et Chandon French Champagne.<br /><br />When asked how he could afford to buy a R3.6m house cash, Malema reacted angrily.<br /><br />"You and your husband and your family - that's who you need to write about. You go away, just go away," he said before slamming down the phone.<br /><br />ANC Youth League spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said The Star was being nonsensical. "I think you need to rethink what you are doing. What business is this of yours? How dare you call me and ask for comment on this?"<br /><br />It's not the first time questions surrounding the scale of Malema's lifestyle have emerged.<br /><br />Sources in the youth league have said he earns R20 000 a month.<br /><br />At the same time that the transfer of the Sandown house went through, Malema attended a press conference in a Gucci suit, and sported a Breitling watch worth about R250 000.<br /><br />The 28-year-old politician owns a black Mercedes-Benz AMG, which retails at R734 000, and reportedly drives an Aston Martin and a red Range Rover Sport, too. Clearly there was a dispute between Godsell and Maroga, and the CEO seems to have taken precedence."<br /><br />He said that either the chairperson of the board made the announcement of Maroga's resignation without a mandate, or he had a mandate and then the board acted against him, or the board was overridden by a higher authority.<br /><br />"I don't know which scenario is accurate. We have got a disaster on our hands -- you cannot continue with crisis after crisis after crisis in public institutions."<br /><br />He cautioned against blaming the race question for the controversy, saying that Godsell was liked within the ANC and the labour movement.<br /><br />"I think it is quite a big blow that Godsell has resigned," said Investment Solutions economist Chris Hart.<br /><br />"It appears as though the authority of the board is being undermined. The corporate governance at Eskom seems to have been rocked very badly."<br /><br />Godsell announced to Eskom staffers on Thursday that Maroga had resigned but, shortly after that, Godsell called off a media briefing on the matter.<br /><br />Confusion reigned when the ANCYL said Maroga had not quit, until Eskom told the South African Press Association on Monday morning that Maroga was indeed still at the helm of the state utility. He is creating a hostile environment with the wrong people,” Malema said, while President Jacob Zuma, who was also at the rally, looked on smiling.<br /><br />The only way that Gordhan could apologise was to put not less than a billion into the NYDA’s account.<br /><br />“Failure to put more money into that account, comrade Pravin, will make you know us (youth) better. You must ask those who came before you … they would tell you what it means to make the youth of South Africa angry.”<br /><br />Malema said that they did not want to be angry with Gordhan but simply demanded what was due to them.<br /><br />“We qualify for this money; we are not begging, we are calling because it is our right to receive this money, we want more money that will service these young people.”<br /><br />Malema’s criticism of Gordhan coincided with his call for African leadership in the economic sector of the country.<br /><br />He said it was not enough that a black person was minister of finance but that a black person was needed in the Finance Ministry.<br /><br />He said when former president Thabo Mbeki appointed former deputy minister of finance Jubu Moleketi he thought that there was a clear succession plan in that department.<br /><br />“Comrades, we must make sure we fight for an African leadership in the economy; it’s not a secret we have never had an African minister of finance. It cannot be just because we want to nurse the markets.<br /><br />“We are told that Africans are incompetent, they cannot handle finances and complicated issues of the economy; there must be a deliberate effort to empower Africans.”<br /><br />He said that political power was useless as long as there was no economic power.<br /><br />He told the audience they could vote until they were green but without economic power their vote was useless.<br /><br />“We must fight the real struggle of the attainment of economic power.”<br /><br />He called on the NYDA to be more vigilant and to put the interests of young people at the heart of their function.<br /><br />He said in each and every local municipality there should be an office of the NYDA to service the needs of the youth.<br /><br />He also called on NYDA to be at the forefront of the fight against ukuthwala, a practice mostly done in the Pondoland areas of forcing young girls into marriage.<br /><br />“In the immediate (future) the agency (NYDA) must fight ukuthwala. This thing of marrying young kids at an early age by old men who cannot propose to people of their own age must come to an end,” Malema said to loud applause from the crowd. </span></p>

I see no other interpretation when the word "racists" as opposed to "racism" is used in Meeko's statement.<br /><br />Of course, now that the cat is out of the bag, no one meant anything they said!<br /><br />It is about time that the ANC Youth League starts saying what they mean, and taking responsibility for it! For goodness sakes, they are certainly old enough. On the other hand, if they are indeed incapable of choosing spokesmen who can articulate their beliefs clearly (which seems to be the case), they should just shut up.<br /><br />It is high time that they and their parent body, the ANC, are held responsible for this type of behavior and stop using the excuse of youth. Africa has a shameful history of child soldiers, violence and criminality, and we do not need this type of irresponsible destructive behavior promulgated by the intentionally aggravating comments of the "youth" in the ANCYL.<br /><br />Their only way of being popular and making a name for themselves seems to be through easy-come-easy-go hate speech, as opposed to actually doing something intelligent and constructive towards building a better South Africa.<br /><br />It is high time that some of the adults in this country, and in particular in the ANC, start to hold these buffoons responsible for the offensive and dangerous drivel they spout.<br /><br />Come on President Zuma, put your money where your mouth is (or is it your mouth where your money is?) and discipline these people who speak in the name of the ANC. His nearest rival is ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu who has managed to rack up a dozen unpaid fines in the city since August last year amounting to R2 625. In contrast, Malema's predecessor as ANCYL president, Fikile Mbalula - now deputy minister of police - has no fines in Johannesburg.<br /><br />Malema's top recorded speed was 169km/h in a 120km/h zone on 21 September last year as his jet-black Mercedes Benz C350 sped along the N1 near Midrand. He has yet to pay the R1 100 fine. The previous day he was also photographed as he braked hard and slowed to 146km/h, just seconds too late to evade the speed camera.<br /><br /><strong><span style="color:#999999;">Currently in the US</span></strong><br /><br />Malema's most recent infringement on September 6, netted him a R750 fine.<br /><br />Contacted on his cellphone in America where he and Mbalula were taking part in a controversial junket to “promote South Africa” and “encourage Americans to invest” - Malema once again pulled out the race card.<br /><br />“Let me tell you my friend, I have defeated you and your apartheid regime and I'm going to defeat you again, once and for all!"<br /><br />“All of you combined, you can't do anything. You are wasting your time."<br /><br />“I am a child of heroes and heroines of the struggle. I am not a child of cowards and oppressors. I am not a child of an imperialist. I have defeated colonisers. I am going to defeat the children of colonisers.”<br /><br /><strong><span style="color:#999999;">Could face arrest</span></strong><br /><br />Johannesburg metro police spokesperson, Inspector Edna Mamonyane, said normally a warrant of arrest was issued once a fine remained unpaid for 90 days and the offender failed to appear in court “although it can sometimes take a bit longer”.<br /><br />She declined to comment about Malema.<br /><br />The JMPD's head spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, said that “any person will be accountable for any traffic fine, whether they are a judge or whoever they are”.<br /><br />Contacted on Friday, Shivambu professed ignorance about both his and Malema's fines.<br /><br />“I think you are very bored, honestly. I don't know what you are talking about...We can't comment on useless things because we must first verify where you got the information from because you might have made it up in your own mind.”<br /><br /><strong><span style="color:#999999;">Jealous</span></strong><br /><br />He then cut the call.<br /><br />Contacted again, he responded brusquely: “I don't want to talk to you about that. The reservist then managed to lock himself inside his car while Malema and his crew banged on the car's roof and windows as he drove off.<br /><br />Media reports this week suggested that Malema had been charged with assault after the early morning incident at his house.<br /><br />But provincial police Senior Superintendent Eugene Opperman said investigations were still continuing. He would not confirm whether Malema or his bodyguards were facing charges.<br /><br />Several residents, however, said Malema had been a troublesome neighbour ever since he moved in.<br /><br />At his latest party, the upmarket bash had a live band and plenty of booze, a string of visitors with Harley-Davidson motorbikes and others with bling cars.<br /><br />But the question is, how did Malema qualify to rent the house in the first place?<br /><br />He lives in Silvela Road in Sandown Estates. Firzt Realty estate agent Beverly Feinblum said that a cluster home in or around that area could cost anything from R18 000 to R23 000 a month in rental.<br /><br />A free-standing house in a complex would have three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, two reception areas, staff quarters, a pool and a double garage.<br /><br />Malema drives a black C63 Mercedes-Benz AMG, which retails at R734 000.<br /><br />It is rumoured that he also drives an Aston Martin and has a Range Rover.<br /><br />He also has two bodyguards.<br /><br />Malema is believed to employ Coin as a private security firm.<br /><br />Security specialist Mike Bolhuis said bodyguards could cost anything from R500 a shift to R5 000 a day. A permanent bodyguard could cost anything between R30 000 and R60 000 a month.<br /><br />"Bodyguards just make you feel important, like you have a standing. It's a vain move more than a necessary one. I know a couple of government employees who just have bodyguards because there is extra money floating around.<br /><br />"The price does increase as the levels of risk increase and how well known the person is."<br /><br />But ANC spokesperson Lindiwe Zulu said no one should compare what Malema did in his private life with the youth league. If someone wanted to know what Malema earned, it was best to ask him directly.<br /><br />"I don't think people should walk around saying what other people earn."<br /><br />Defending Malema's lavish bash, Zulu justified it with the area he was living in. "You have to look at where he lives... he doesn't live in a shack."<br /><br />When The Independent on Saturday spoke to Malema, he was unrepentant.<br /><br />"Write your story, I don't owe you or your bosses or your paper any comment, I owe you nothing."</span></p><p><em><span style="font-family:Arial;"></span></em></p>

They have “exceeded their terms of reference” by posing as “shadow governments”, he charged, Louis XIV-style, at the Global 2009 Dialogue in Uganda this week.<br /><br />In fact, as the whole world knows, the NGOs have been keeping Zimbabweans fed during the crisis spawned by Mugabe’s disastrous agricultural policies. If it had not been for their timely intervention tens of thousands of Zimbabweans would have starved.<br /><br />Now Mugabe wants them to go because they are acting as “shadow governments”.<br /><br />So what’s wrong with that? NGOs and anybody else for that matter are perfectly entitled to fulfil that function, particularly when the government itself is incapable of doing anything useful. It is called service delivery. Their terms of reference are to provide capacity to those working for national improvement and to help those least able to help themselves.<br /><br />NGOs embarrass Mugabe by showing him what he should be doing. No wonder he loathes them!<br /><br />The Herald, which carried the story from Uganda, tried to be helpful by claiming the Zimbabwe delegation was “hailed for setting a unique example in Africa”. It also managed to slip in the following: “The NGO community has been accused of disrupting the recent All-Stakeholders People’s Conference in Harare…”<br /><br />Accused by whom? Nothing more clearly reflects the dishonesty of the state media. Is Patrick Zhuwao an NGO activist? And what about Saviour Kasukuwere and Joseph Chinotimba? We saw the real culprits on ZTV!<br /><br />Mugabe’s remarks in Uganda betray a hostility towards organisations that form a fundamental part of any democratic society and give a warning that the discredited assumptions of the ancien regime are still with us, paraded on international platforms when the country was supposed to have mended its ways.<br /><br />It is a pity Mugabe’s views, redolent of repression, will discredit the smart partnership project, started by his old friend Mahathir Mohamad over a decade ago.<br /><br />“National vision can only thrive in an environment of peace and stability,” the president told his audience. He is quite right. But does that involve expelling NGOs and arresting civic activists? Investors will be unimpressed. Chiadzwa provides a picture of what the absence of peace and stability looks like. And what sort of investment destination is it where a youthful n’anga is able to con an entire cabinet taskforce and senior police officers into believing she could tap diesel from a rock?<br /><br />The country’s fuel problems were “a thing of the past”, they reported back to Mugabe.<br />In fact she was controlling the flow of diesel by operating a tap on a fuel tank!<br />And does Arthur Mutambara know his national vision document is “drawn from the government’s Vision 20/20” project that went nowhere? If that is the case it will suffer the same fate as the Kariba document!<br /><br />And what about the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act which he is currently charged under? Is that part of his vision?<br /><br />The president nowadays seems a tad insecure. Why are ministers and service chiefs required to line up at the airport when he comes and goes?<br /><br />Does he really need to offer a limp handshake to all of them –– twice a day in some cases?<br /><br />Now there is a new manifestation of this preoccupation with the trappings of power. His office has clearly directed that he now be known as “Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces”. Not just here and there but every single time he is mentioned in the state media.<br /><br />This seems rather obviously directed against any pretensions Morgan Tsvangirai may have to be Head of Government. But is it really necessary?<br /><br />It was carried in a caption on Page 1 of the Sunday Mail last weekend. Then again on Page 3, and finally on Page 11. We could have missed a few!<br /><br />State journalists are evidently not allowed to mention the president without citing all his titles. Even the relatively independent-minded Alexander Kanengoni, in recalling that a friend had advised Patrick Zhuwao not to send that famous letter, squeezed in this mouthful: “He advised him the letter was against the spirit of what the Head of State and Government, Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, His Excellence (sic) President Mugabe had said at the principals’ joint press conference…”<br /><br />Phew! How many column inches does this amount to? But the more obvious question: Is Tsvangirai that much of a threat? Does the president really need this sort of elaborate comfort zone?<br /><br />Again, do we need a media in which journalists are instructed in forms of address? We would like to know who is giving the press their marching orders in this regard, especially when we suspect that “Head of Government” is not a constitutional title anyway. And what can we conclude when Kanengoni and Funny Mushava, both first-class writers, misspell Excellency the same way on the same page?<br /><br />This reminds us of all those “illegal” sanctions that are still deemed “illegal” despite the pronouncements of the US president that Congress can pass what laws it wants!<br /><br />Last week saw some interesting disclosures from Attorney-General Johannes Tomana. Like the president, he appears to be on the offensive.<br /><br />He “slammed attempts by some politicians to undermine his office”, we are told, “and has vowed to continue carrying out his duties without fear or favour”.<br /><br />Giving an interview to the Herald, he at the same time gave a number of hostages to fortune. Asked about the Bennett case where he has been accused of being “the single largest threat to national healing”, Tomana said: “My job is to ensure that criminals are brought to book and I should not let people off with impunity. My obligations are not going to stand or fall on the platitudes of politicians. These are people who are trying to hide behind politics to settle their scores. They are blaming me for being Zanu PF. I have my allegiance to my religion as I have my allegiance to my party of choice, but I have also an allegiance to deliver in my profession. I am a public servant and I owe it to the people that those facing serious charges are not given the freedom to flee.”<br /><br />He accused the MDC-T of “fighting crime prevention”.<br /><br />“Should we just ignore (it) when 13-year-old girls are being raped? Should we let it go when the laws are being broken with impunity? We cannot do that.”<br /><br />The Herald didn’t ask about the status of Joseph Mwale and his legendary impunity. Nor did it ask why only activists from one party are prosecuted when it is public knowledge that the bulk of the electoral violence came from another party, the one arguably better equipped to mount a campaign of violence.<br /><br />Who for instance was responsible for the savage assaults on MDC leaders at the Highfield police station in 2007? Why haven’t they been prosecuted or those who tortured Jestina Mukoko and others?<br /><br />Hasn’t the AG a duty to operate in a way that is even-handed instead?<br /><br />As for the Bennett case and that of Blessing Chebundo, is it sensible to discuss guilt or flight risk when those cases are still pending in the courts?<br /><br />Bennett, let us remind ourselves, voluntarily returned to this country to participate in the government of national unity. He was arrested despite assurances made to President Motlanthe that he wouldn’t be. Who is the guilty one there? And is it Tomana’s job to lecture the MDC on its duties to the public. Surely the MDC and every other party has a duty to ensure the AG’s office is managed with professionalism and independence. That should not include self-serving statements in the press.<br /><br />At least we can thank Tomana for opening up a debate around his conduct in the AG’s office. That will give us a bone to chew on without any justifiable grounds for complaint from him. We will want to know for instance how he moved up the legal ladder so rapidly and if his colleagues in the legal profession have the same confidence in him as the president?<br /><br />The GPA is unambiguous that all senior appointments in government should be made in consultation between the principals. Why did that not happen in Tomana’s case?<br /><br />Columnist Max Du Preez, writing in the Star, will have struck a chord with Zimbabweans. As the townships sink into anarchy and violence over service delivery, senior officials have been displaying extraordinary insensitivity.<br /><br />“During the weeks that the township protests were raging,” Du Preez said, “it became known that former MK top brass and now Minister of Communications General Sephiwe Nyanda had spent R2 million of taxpayers’ money on two real James Bond cars for himself –– not just reliable, safe cars which he should really have at his disposal, but ultra-luxurious limousines with extras and added bling that would make any multi-millionaire proud.<br /><br />“During the same time, “ Du Preez adds, “we hear that senior ANC figures refused to stay in the really good and safe housing provided for them and instead rented homes for more than R30 000 a month –– again using taxpayers’ money.”<br /><br />The ANC’s full attention, Du Preez points out, is right now focused on a debate over whether the mines should be nationalised and how the judiciary can be manipulated so they end up with a bench friendly to the ruling party.<br /><br />“Citizens should be forgiven for asking the ANC, its Youth League and the SACP,” Du Preez writes, “whether they really think the state can run the mines in South Africa if they can’t even run the SABC, the Robben Island Museum or local government.”<br /><br />Both the SABC and Robben Island Museum sagas have provided South Africans with a useful glimpse into what happens when a post-liberation aristocracy helps itself to public funds –– all in the name of transformation, you understand.<br /><br />Zimbabweans may be forgiven for feeling a sense of déjà vu. Been there. Done that.<br /></span><p>
