Serfontein was injured while fighting with the men in an attempt to save her life. He was bashed over the head with an iron bar and sustained heavy bruising across his body as well as an injured hand and arm. He was treated at a local hospital. The Volksblad report does not describe how the couple were rescued and whether anything was stolen at all.

Malherbe's granddaughter, Kaycee, 5, was hysterical during the attack. Malherbe's son, WD, 34, said the attack lasted about two hours, "but it felt like forever. There was murder in their faces." WD said he had come for supper on Tuesday evening at his father and stepmother's. Shortly after 19:00, an Isuzu bakkie and a Toyota Corolla with a blue light on the roof, had stopped in front of the farmhouse. Three of the eight men were wearing police uniforms. The rest were "neatly clothed, like detectives". "We thought it was the police and then I opened the door. They pointed semi-automatic machine guns at me." WD said the attackers told them they were police officers from Gauteng and were investigating illegal firearms. His father asked to see identification and the men quickly waved about "a piece of paper and cards". "We could see these weren't police IDs and said we were going to call the police. They then pulled on their Balaclavas." They asked for money and keys to the safe. The attackers tied up WD, his father and stepmother and also tied the hands of his sister, Zia, and her daughter Kaycee. "They told me to lie on my face on the sofa. We weren't allowed to speak and every now and then felt a firearm against the head." WD said the attackers shocked them, but not Kaycee, several times with stun guns. The men took his father to a nearby building from where the family ran the Limpopo Meat Packers business. He gave them the keys to the safe. They took his shoes and pulled a plastic bag over his head. They took R120 000. The attackers forced him back to the house and took him and his wife to their bedroom. A plastic bag was also pulled over his wife's head. "They were choked. I felt like I was going crazy when I heard that but I couldn't do anything," said their son." Employees of the Malherbes who stayed in a flat near the main house, suspected something was wrong and activated an alarm. "They fled when the alarm went off. They took my bakkie, but later left it on a farm road. My father and stepmother's cellphones were also stolen. We feel vulnerable, what should you do if people with police uniforms and a blue light stop near you? How should you know who you can trust?" Free State farmer murdered

She said the farmer's wife Dorothy Gieseke was alone in the house when she was surprised by three men armed with a firearm and screwdriver. "They threatened her and demanded money and firearms from her and when they could not get any they took her handbag and cellphone." Mosupa said the woman managed to press the panic button inside the house and the three suspects ran away without hurting her. Police said when the woman went outside to look for her husband she found him dead. He earlier went outside to feed animals and water some plants. Mosupa said a blood covered stone was found at the scene with which the attackers apparently hit Ernest Gieseke, 69, on the head. "His throat was also cut with a sharp object." Mosupa said a search for the attackers started immediately and three men, between the age of 16 and 30, were found not far from the farm. Police are still looking for more suspects in the case.

Dorning's wife was unhurt. No arrests had been made. A spent 9mm cartridge was found on the scene. Robbers mow down farmer - 2009-10-05 Cullinan - A farmer was killed when three men robbed his house in Cullinan on Monday morning, police said. Constable Sally Skosana said three men entered the farm north of Pretoria during the early hours of Monday. "The farm owner's wife heard the dogs barking and went outside to investigate. The three men then pointed a firearm at her and entered the house." When the farm owner woke up to investigate, one of the men shot him in the chest and he died instantly. Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said six men overpowered the farmer at the farm Skaapskraal at about 11:45. "Steve Minnaar, 70, his wife and some workers were tied up with cables and ties." Captain Leonard Hlathi said three men entered the farm belonging to Tracy Pemberton, 41, at 9:30am. "The suspects accosted her father, Donald Gubb, 65, while he was outside and forced him inside the house. "They tied him up before doing the same to his 65-year-old wife, Yvonne, their daughter, and their employee, Samuel Lukhele, 57." He said the men demanded money from the victims. "When they were told that there was no money, they stabbed Mr Gubb in the head, took a piece of metal and hit him on the head, and then stabbed him in the chest. They also hit Mrs Gubb with a piece of metal on the head." The men then took three cellphones belonging to the victims and a R50 note before fleeing the scene. The couple were taken to the hospital and were in a stable condition. Police were investigating, Hlathi said.

A gang of seven to nine people held up a domestic worker at gunpoint and robbed her of a cellphone at around 8pm on Monday. They proceeded into the farm house where they found a disabled 53-year-old woman and her 77-year-old mother. They tied them up with telephone cables and proceeded ransacking the house. The elderly woman was assaulted with a gun and sustained chest and facial injuries. Her daughter was pistol-whipped in the face. The robbers stole five guns and cellphones before they fled. The women were transported to the Ficksburg hospital in a stable condition. Further investigation led the police to an area where they caught seven suspected robbers. Five of them were men and two were women. The two guns stolen from the farm house were recovered. Police also found two cars that were suspected to have been stolen, as a number of registration plates were found inside. One of the suspects tried to escape and shot at the police when they cornered him. He was wounded during the shooting and taken to a hospital in Ficksburg and is under police guard. Police believed the gang was linked to other farm attacks in the area.

Bloemendal Estate farm owner, Alan Rowe, 58, was attacked by two assailants who had been hiding at a garage in his farm waiting for his return. On his return home from a friend's house at 20:15, shots were fired at his Mazda Drifter bakkie. It is believed that there were two hit-men, one shooting from the left, while the other one hid in the garage and took cover behind a parked bakkie. A 9mm handgun and a Point 22 rifle was used. A friend and neighbour, Gavin Hill who was first to arrive on the scene said he found his friend's jacket abandoned on the grass. "I believe he took off the jacket because it's a bright yellow colour and he thought his attackers would not see him in darker clothing." Unfortunately, his assailants caught up with him and gunned him down. He was shot twice in the chest, and one of the bullets went through his arm. Hill believes Rowe's murder was a "planned hit", but there is no clarity on the real motive. "This was not a robbery gone wrong, it was not a hijacking gone wrong. They chased him, and hunted him down with the intent to kill a farmer." Police spokesperson, Henry Budhram said the killing is linked to land claims disputes but did not give details on the issue. The Bloemendal Estate farm is a combined dairy and meat farm, with about 50 beef cattle and 375 milk cows. Rowe visited Hill and his partner Donna Lay on Wednesday at about 18:30. He left Hill's place at 20:30 and at 20:45 a foreman at their farm received a call about the shooting. Hill and Lay rushed to the farm but when they arrived it was too late. "We grabbed the guns and came here, we found the bakkie with its lights on but he was nowhere to be found. We called him and heard his cellphone ringing from the grazing camp." Searching further down, they found his body.

The beaten body of Boschkop dairy farmer, Johannes van den Bosch, 63, was found by his son in an outhouse while the body of his wife, Jacobi, 60, was found in the couple's home early on Friday morning. It is believed that Van den Bosch was overpowered as he walked into the milking stables and beaten repeatedly over the head sometime during the early hours of the morning. According to police the blows were so severe that the left side of Van den Bosch's skull was crushed. The killers then took his house keys, unlocked the kitchen door and entered the couple's double-storey house where they hid at the base of the stairs. They attacked Van den Bosch's wife and stabbed her seven times in the back and side as she walked downstairs before they fled with two cellphones which had been left on a table; the only items they took. It is believed that the killers left behind a substantial amount of money, firearms and other valuables, including expensive jewellery. It is not known if Van den Bosch was coming downstairs to investigate a noise possibly made by her killers or whether she was on her way to make her husband's breakfast. As police cordoned off the scene and specialised crime scene investigators searched the blood-spattered buildings, distraught relatives were comforted by neighbours and friends. While DNA and other forensic experts searched the scene for clues, using state-of-the-art technology, others could be seen searching the smallholding and the surrounding area for clues with aid of sniffer dogs trained in the detection of body fluids. Crime scene photographers took off in a helicopter to take aerial photographs for detectives from the Bronkhorstspruit tri-crime task team who are piecing the attack together to help them track down the killers. Other investigators said the brutality behind the attack was marked. "All I can say is that what happened in that house is horrible. It is really bad. No one deserves to die like that," said a police inspector. Police spokesman Johannes Jaftha said the attack had been extremely brutal. "It is very bloody crime scene. A lot of force was used in the attack," he said. Jaftha confirmed the killers had escaped with only two cellphones. "There was no sign of forced entry and the house was not ransacked. "At this stage we cannot say what the motive for the murder was. We are not sure if the motive is an armed robbery, or if there is another reason behind the killings," Jaftha said. He said although no weapons had been found, crime scene investigators had found several clues and were following up on a number of pieces of information and were hoping to make arrests soon. But much less expected is the fact that next-door <a class="related" href="http://www.newsweek.com/related.aspx?subject=South+Africa">South Africa</a>, the continent's wealthiest and most developed country, is suffering a brain drain of its own. The South African government doesn't keep reliable emigration statistics. But even as the global financial crisis has caused emigration from most other countries to slow, a number of recent independent studies show that mass departures from South Africa are ongoing and are sapping the nation of its skilled and best-educated young citizens. The most dramatic figures can be found among South African whites, who are leaving at a pace consistent with the advent of "widespread disease, mass natural disasters or large-scale civil conflict," according to a report by the South African Institute on Race Relations. Some 800,000 out of a total white population of 4 million have left since 1995, by one count. But they're hardly alone. Blacks, coloreds (as people of mixed race are known in South Africa) and Indians are also expressing the desire to leave. In the last 12 years, the number of blacks graduating in South Africa with advanced degrees has grown from 361,000 to 1.4 million a year. But in that time the number of those expressing high hopes to emigrate has doubled. This wasn't supposed to happen. In many ways, the new South Africa has lived up to its promise of racial harmony and equitable development; its enlightened Constitution, progressive economic policies, and wealth of human and natural resources have all kept it relatively stable since apartheid was swept away in 1994. But that stability could be jeopardized if its human capital keeps leaving at the current rate. South Africa has undergone massive swings in emigration for decades, including since the end of white rule. The shifts can be linked to changes in political stability and economic opportunity, as well as less worrisome factors like simple wanderlust. And all these same factors are at work now, but they've been accentuated by a violent crime epidemic, serious political upheaval and economic globalization. A poll conducted last May among 600 people of different races, ages and genders found that 20 percent were planning to leave the country. "We are now seeing a new tipping point for an exodus," warned another report from Future Fact, a polling agency. "But this time [it's] across-the-board in terms of race." The primary driver for emigration among all groups, but especially whites, who still retain the majority of South Africa's wealth, is fear of crime. With more than 50 killings a day, South Africa has one of the highest per capita murder rates in the world. The same goes for rape—ranking the country alongside conflict zones such as Sierra Leone, Colombia and Afghanistan. Future Fact polling indicates that more than 95 percent of those eager to leave South Africa rate violent crime as the single most important factor affecting their thinking. Lynette Chen, the ethnic-Chinese CEO of Nepad Business Group, is the only member of her family left in South Africa. Her parents departed in 2002 after being carjacked—twice. Her brother, also a victim of crime, followed suit shortly thereafter. "They're always getting homesick," she says. "But they won't come back unless the crime is reduced." Another largely unnoticed problem is the growing number of attacks on South Africa's white farmers. As in neighboring Zimbabwe, some of the attacks appear to be racially motivated. Others seem simply opportunistic, but the result is that white farmers' numbers continue to decrease, leading to fears that despite the government's good intentions, a Zimbabwe-style crisis—where the flight of skilled farmers led to an agricultural collapse—is possible here too. Then there's the problem of affirmative action, which many whites feel limits their opportunities for advancement and which keeps many émigrés from returning. "You can attract people home, but there are still the same concerns when they get here," Chen says. "Crime and lack of job opportunities if you're not the right color." Still another factor driving out citizens of all races is the country's political crisis. National elections are due in April, and the likely next president, Jacob Zuma, faces a battery of serious corruption charges and accusations of autocratic behavior. Zuma's ruling ANC party has been split by a rebellion of former loyalists, and increasing numbers of South Africans express concern with the health of their young democracy. The leadership vacuum has also distracted attention from pressing national concerns like energy. Last spring the country was engulfed in rolling "brownouts" as the electric grid ground to a halt because of mismanagement. For all these reasons, even the global economic slowdown hasn't been enough to keep qualified South Africans at home. Of the country's 25,000 registered accountants, fully a quarter now live overseas. Engineers, doctors, nurses and accountants are all in increasingly short supply. In February, Health Minister Barbara Hogan said South Africa's doctors are "constantly being poached" by places like Canada, Australia and the United States—among the most popular destinations for wealthy white émigrés. Banks and investment companies are forced to look for talent overseas, and Eskom, the disgraced national electricity provider, has recently begun scrambling to attract electrical engineers back home, but with little success. The long-term effects of this exodus are already being felt in other critical ways. The vast majority of South Africa's emigrants are also the country's best and brightest. Compounding the problem is the fact that while South Africa has lenient policies toward admitting refugees from elsewhere in Africa, the import of skilled labor is still quite onerous—meaning that as more and more trained workers leave, there are fewer and fewer replacements. Pretoria needs new policies to balance these flows, says Debbie Milner of Future Fact. "Africa has a huge amount of skilled people in it, and many other African countries have better education systems than our own." To succeed, post-racial South Africa also needs to move nonwhite professionals quickly up the ranks in all sectors of its economy, and the government's black-empowerment plan centers on ensuring that more of its citizens get advanced degrees. But as growing numbers of these graduates express a desire to follow their white colleagues out the door, the prospects for continued economic empowerment are dimming. "We were dumbfounded by the incredibly high numbers of people who claim they're seriously considering leaving South Africa," Milner says. While unemployment for whites has increased more than 100 percent since the end of apartheid, it remains as low as an average European country, between 7 percent and 8 percent. Joblessness among blacks, on the other hand, is hovering at around 50 percent. "If the qualified nonwhites are leaving too, that is pretty dire for black economic empowerment," Milner says. To be fair, not all the signs point in one direction. The global economic downturn has led to anecdotal reports of South Africans returning from the once hot economies of Europe and North America. Others who were recently on the verge of leaving have now decided to stay put, in some cases when their offers were rescinded at the last moment. "I don't dispute that people have left—I just dispute the high figures," says Martine Schaffer of the Homecoming Revolution, an NGO that helps returnees with logistical difficulties and to get reacquainted with a country that may have changed significantly in their absence. "Nothing indicates that they've all emigrated permanently." That may be true. But if Pretoria hopes to drive development, it needs to act fast to keep the South African exodus from gaining momentum. For starters, the new president should make fighting crime a priority. South Africa's affirmative-action program should also be re-examined and tweaked, perhaps to emphasize economic status rather than race. Whites between the ages of 20 and 35—currently the group most susceptible to emigration—should be allowed to compete more forcefully for jobs. Such measures won't stop emigration entirely, certainly not while the country's leadership crisis continues. But South Africa faces no great new natural disaster or a war. Its vital statistics need to begin to reflect that. The attacks, which took place within hours of each other, saw a woman caretaker raped and a family of four tied up and terrorised. The assaults, which took place in Kameeldrift and Cullinan, come after prominent city lawyer, Stephanus Cilliers, 66, was found dead, with a gunshot wound to the side, in his smallholding near Rayton on Monday morning by his son. Rayton is situated between Cullinan and Kameeldrift. In Tuesday's first assault, two men attacked a woman caretaker and her husband near the Agricultural Research Centre in Kameeldrift. The couple opened their door to the attackers after the latter pretended to need help. Police spokesperson Constable Mabel Sibande said as the suspects attacked the woman, her husband managed to escape and run for help. She said while the husband was calling for help, the two men, one of whom is believed to have had a handgun, dragged the wife into the bushes and raped her. "By the time police arrived at the smallholding the men had fled," she said, adding that members of the police dog unit found the woman in the bushes after a short search. She said the men had attacked a security guard at a neighbouring farm after he spotted them trying to break into a building. "When the security guard saw the men, they pistol whipped him, stole his cellphone and fled," she said. In the second attack, a man was arrested moments after a Cullinan mother and her three teenage children were tied up and terrorised by four robbers shortly after her husband left for work. The men, three of whom were armed with guns, surprised the woman as she was waking her children to get ready for school. Police said the men tied the family up in a bedroom before they ransacked the house and fled in the family's car.

The mostly White, Afrikaaner-Boer farmers find themselves increasingly marginalized in a society that views them as “land barons”, a government that looks to expropriate their land, and “war like conditions” which include a corrupt police force. “The increase in armed attacks, robbery and theft of farm products and implements holds serious financial implications for agriculture in our country. This high crime rate is experienced by the industry as economic sabotage,” said Agri-SA spokesman André Botha. Farmers have been moving to neighboring African countries, whose governments have invited the farmers because of their expertise in producing bountiful crops in the tough African conditions. In addition to the loss of commercial farmers, more than 1 million black African farm workers have become unemployed and have had to move their families to squatter camps. In total, approximately 5 million people have been displaced.

In the latest robbery, a 25-year-old woman's cottage on Groot Constantia Estate, was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning. The woman, a teacher at a Rondebosch primary school, was sleeping when three men broke into her house. Chandler said one stood over her with a screwdriver, while the other two raided her cottage for valuable items. They took all that they could carry - a laptop computer, an iPod and jewellery - before escaping on foot. Chandler said four similar incidents had taken place in Constantia and its surrounds - also in the dead of night and on isolated properties by a group of men who took valuable items. He believed the suspects might be watching the movements of residents during the day to see which houses would make good targets. There were no lessons to be learned relevant to averting the <a href="http://www.vdare.com/francis/white_genocide.htm">destruction</a> of another—this time the last—western outpost in Africa.These days the NYT agonizes over the "<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/06/world/africa/06safrica.html?_r=1&oref=slogin">regicide</a>" "the governing African National Congress" committed by "deposing one of its own, President Thabo Mbeki, and replacing him with a stand-in for Mr. Mbeki’s archrival, Jacob Zuma."The ANC may have behaved abruptly compared to the gentlemanly manner in which the Afrikaner National Party ceded power to it. <a href="http://middleeastfacts.com/guests/arnold_25mar05e.php">"Surrender without defeat"</a> is how (liberal) historian Hermann Giliomee termed that extraordinary leap of faith. The same people, in the same spirit, <a href="http://books.google.com/books?id=DtiJVtJBzvcC&pg=PA120&lpg=PA120&dq=dismantled+Pelindaba&source=web&ots=bMoBSe-qFP&sig=CPsfg8igSrVB42LaxZ6AoUbThoA&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result">peacefully dismantled</a> the six nuclear devices they had built at Pelindaba. (My good friend Afrikaner intellectual <a href="http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2005/03/help_dan_roodt.php">Dan Roodt</a> analyses that magnanimity in his closely-argued, deliciously titled, "<a href="http://barelyablog.com/?p=406">You Can’t Have Your Banana and Eat It</a>.")But otherwise, the ANCniks are living up to their reputation—and that of all other strongmen in strife-torn sub-Saharan Africa.The NYT’s Bearak calls Jacob Zuma, who is about to usurp Mbeki as president, "polarizing". He hasn’t seen anything yet. I’ve lived through Highveld thunder storms and Cape, South-Easter, gale-force winds. Few and far between were the blackouts. (I purchased a generator in the US, after experiencing my first three-day power outage.)No, Eskom, the utility that supplied most of the electricity consumed on the continent, did not run out of juice. It just ran out of experienced engineers, expunged pursuant to <a href="http://www.labour.gov.za/download/9478/Act%20-%20Broad-Based%20Black%20Economic%20Empowerment%20-%202003.pdf">Black Economic Empowerment</a> policies. (Known in South Africa as "BEE", these are the equivalent of the <a href="http://vdare.com/mercer/080918_ucla.htm">racial quotas</a> Barack Obama champions, only with many times the sting.)Another "unfathomable" occurrence that helped disrupt South Africa’s electricity supply: the decision to <a href="http://bbbee.typepad.com/paul_janisch/2008/02/eskom-is-an-exa.html">buy coal from the spot market</a>. Driven by BEE policies, here’s the sequence Eskom buyers followed: buy first from black women-owned suppliers, then small black suppliers, then large black suppliers, and only after all of these options had been exhausted (or darkness descended, whatever came first), from "other" suppliers.The NYT reporter is half-right about one thing: "Since 1996, the black population has risen to a projected 38.5 million from 31.8 million." Unmentioned is the fact that the same population has been increasing since Europeans settled South Africa. Then again, "the crucial factor in South African politics was a much more rapid black population growth than anyone had anticipated," writes (liberal) historian (<a href="http://www.stellenboschwriters.com/giliomee.html">Hermann Giliomee </a><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FAfrikaners-Biography-Reconsiderations-Southern-African%2Fdp%2F0813922372&tag=vdare&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325">The Afrikaners</a>, p. 519).Indeed, demographics were the raison d’être for apartheid. Demographics and a fear of communism and crime. (At least two of which have come to pass; Africans have overwhelmed Europeans numerically and criminally. Does that mean the Afrikaners were prescient?) These, so far, are some of the NYT’s half truths. Now to the outright lies:"The white population," writes Bearak, "has dropped to a projected 4.5 million from 4.8 million," since 1996. This is an astonishing underestimate. In my book, I report the estimate of the ultra-liberal <a href="http://www.sairr.org.za/">South African Institute of Race Relations</a>: the white population had shrunk from 5,215,000 in 1995 to 4,374,000 in 2005. Almost a fifth.Chief among the reasons cited for the exodus is <a href="http://archive.salon.com/news/feature/2000/03/28/south_africa/index.html">violent crime</a>. Spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers said the attack happened on Friday evening when two armed men confronted 69 year-old farmer Nick Engelbrecht as he was arriving at his farm. The men threatened Engelbrecht with two firearms stolen from his farm, forced him into his vehicle and made him ride to a nearby farm. Engelbrecht then ran towards the house of another farmer, 67 year-old Stefanus Kotze and his wife. The men then shot and wounded Engelbrecht in his upper left arm and shot Kotze in the face. Kotze died on the scene. Police managed to arrest the men, aged 18 and 19 in the early hours of Saturday. They will appear in court shortly on charges of housebreaking, theft, kidnapping, malicious damage to property, murder and attempted murder.

According to the latest racist formulas, if you reduce the whites and eliminate the influence of "dead white males" from universities, you will liberate mankind from the great oppressor. Then there will be paradise on earth. So the campaign against whites, which began many years ago, has advanced through country after country. Perhaps you missed hearing about the anti-white atrocities in Angola. Perhaps the history of Mozambique is unfamiliar to you. Since 1994 blacks have killed over 4,000 white farmers in South Africa. Has there been a peep from the white world? It is an odd thing when humanitarian concern is blotted out by the fact of skin color. And please note: There is no racial solidarity on the white side. Or none that amounts to anything. The great white herd, having liquidated Hitler from its midst, having purged the memory of Nazism and the colonial past, is now ready to be slaughtered and milked in turn. It seems that human beings cannot find a middle, reasonable path. We cannot get rid of racism. Instead, we must supplant one evil for another. Previously it was the non-whites who suffered. Now we enter an era in which whites are being tenderized for the spit. The madness of one form of prejudice never gives way to reason, but only to another type of prejudice. The strategic Cape sea route, through which the Middle East's oil flows to Europe and America, can now be cut by the growing South African armed forces, which are now in league with Russia and China.
