This followed reports of tender irregularities within the events management company which allegedly won the tender to run the event, Global Interface Consulting. “I’m the convener,” NYDA chairman Andile Lungisa told journalists in Pretoria when questioned about the controversy. “I’m running the event with Tiago Vieira, the president of the World Federation of Democratic Youth. “I don’t know whether I’ve been sold now to be a company. I’m not an Ltd.” He said NYDA had been approached by the company but that it had failed to deliver and so was not assisting in any way in the 10-day festival. Lungisa said the company, owned by members of the ANC Youth League’s national provincial council, did not have enough capacity. It has also emerged that Global Interface Consulting was not registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office. But Lungisa said it was not his responsibility to see to it that the company was registered. “We support people who start initiatives. It doesn’t necessarily mean that if you’re not registered then you can’t work with us because we… must empower the youth.” NYDA reportedly had advertised a contract for an events management company only on August 30, giving interested bidders just 10 days to put in proposals. The contract was on October 29. The "Let's defeat imperialism" festival got off to a slow start with some teething problems on Monday. Many delegates were not attending sessions but rather playing games in Pretoria. The major problem was food, then transport. Some people complained that they were being mistreated and had gone for days without food. Awarded Lungisa, however, hit back. “This is not called a wine and food festival. People will not get a three-course meal. There’s food for people to eat, but no one is going to die after this festival,” he said. In addition, at least four Moroccan delegates were injured in what is believed to be political infighting between them and delegates from Western Sahara. A camera belonging to a delegate from Iraq was allegedly stolen yesterday. But Lungisa defended the anti-imperialism-themed festival, particularly with regard to apparent widespread kissing among delegates. “The kissing game is going to continue,” he said. “They are not in a prison. They are part of this festival. We need to provide an opportunity for exchange.” The number of people attending workshops grew yesterday, in contrast to the scene outside, where groups of mostly South Africans were singing and dancing. Lungisa defended this behaviour, saying South Africa was a nation of song and dance. Meanwhile, the R40 million granted by the National Lotteries Board to the festival was double the amount it gave to the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup. And an amount "greater than the entire annual budget for the Cotlands orphanage" According to the Lotto's website it is required to distribute 45% of its funds to charities; 22% to arts, culture and national heritage and 5% for miscellaneous purposes. Wasting taxpayers' money - again, still, whatever! The presidency promised R29m to host the nine-day left-wing youth festival themed "Let's defeat imperialism" but this appeared to be far too little. NYDA Chairman, Andile Lungisa, had been reported as saying they need closer to R370m to cover their costs. And Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies has revealed that his department also pledged R300 000 towards the festival budget and paid R190 288 for an exhibition stand. Cosatu and the DA both called for an investigation into the grant and a full audit of how the people’s money from the National Lotteries Board and the government was spent. It issued a statement yesterday deploring the reported shambles at the festival in which speakers were not confirmed and did not arrive, seven out of 18 seminars on Tuesday were cancelled and visitors complained of “bad food, a lack of transport and poor co-ordination of accommodation arrangements”. Several dodgy regimes were included in the participants list - North Korea and Zimbabwe is among them.

SA's white farmers Trek to Eastern Europe

The number of commercial farmers in South Africa have plummeted from a high of 85,000 in 1994 to 11,600 today. This high crime rate is experienced by the industry as economic sabotage,” said Agri-SA. In addition to the loss of commercial farmers, more than 1 million black African farm workers have become unemployed and have had to move their families to squatter camps. In total, approximately 5 million people have been displaced. Now the last of SA's white farmers are about to depart for greener pastures in Georgia, Eastern Europe. "This is a great opportunity for farmers, because the government in Georgia knows that, without commercial farmers, the country can't go forward... commercial farmers are (a country's) biggest asset. It's a pity our government doesn't have this approach." Georgia needs expertise as it wants to uplift its agricultural sector which was destroyed by socialism and communism about 70 years ago.

From what was arguably one of the greatest triumphs of sporting capitalism in the world, the country is increasingly being squeezed between groups that either believe Marx, Lenin and Trotsky were right or that Venezuela's Hugo Chavez is the world's greatest living man. And being bullied into believing these are only two options on the table. By BRANKO BRKIC. The last full week of August 2010 brought firm displays of power and determination by two antipodes within the ruling tripartite alliance: At one pole, the public servants' strike raged across the country, accompanied by ugly scenes of dehumanising stupidity, and being greatly strengthened by Cosatu's Zwelinzima Vavi's threat to stop SA's heartbeat. At the other pole, safely ensconced behind menacing bodyguards and security officers, ANC Youth League officials and national general council delegates plotted their way to greater influence of their own; influence that would result in changing of SA's Constitution to bring their Chavez-like plans to reality, as well as to ensure hastening their own ascent to power. As we are writing this, President Zuma has ordered his relevant ministers to return to the negotiating table to break the strike deadlock, a move that may have been designed to bolster his weakened decision-making credentials. Still, sitting somewhere in the middle, almost nobody believes he would be asked by his own people to lead them for another term. It appears that we are about to hit a fork in the road, and both directions offer a lousy future. And yet, not everything is necessarily definite. Depending on how the events of the next 30 days or so play out, SA could be in for a surprise or two. The picture of our future is still developing. But before we continue talking about what will paint that picture, and perhaps to understand the process better, let's look at the events that led to the destruction of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, whose long-time leader, Broz Tito, died in 1980 after leading the country and his party since 1945. In 1985, the communist cell of Belgrade elected a new boss, a little-known banker named Slobodan Milosevic. And as had been the case many times before, Milosevic became leader of Serbian communists in 1987, as his best friend and mentor, Ivan Stambolic ascended to the post of president of Serbia. But in the same year, Milosevic, a career communist until then, turned nationalist, split with the official line and demanded an urgent and forceful resolution of Kosovo's Albanian separatist problem. Where he encountered a problem at party level, he steamrollered the opposition, including his own boss and best friend, Stambolic. In the best populist tradition, while controlling the press completely, he stoked up people's feelings of righteous anger and then organised so called “people's revolutions” to replace the leadership of the provinces he needed to put into his column. (You are completely free to draw parallels with one Julius Malema's consolidation-of-power tactics) His plan was pretty sound: He was to mobilise and organise his forces to become a majority compared to the “enemy faction” from Croatia and Slovenia, before the 14th Congress of the Yugoslav Communist Party in January 1990. He completed his master plan well before that date. And his domination of the party's congress was total. His people came to power, his policies became federal policies. At that moment, he thought, he was in control of the whole country. Except that Croatian and Slovenian communists simply couldn't and didn't want to stay in the party dominated by the polarizing and uncompromising figure Milosevic was. So they pulled out of the Federal party, effectively ending its existence. By the end of the 1990, there were free elections in every Yugoslavian province and the communists were still clinging to power only in Serbia, after an election campaign marred by violence and intimidation. Suddenly, Milosevic's master plan, so brilliantly executed, meant nothing anymore. His only way of thinking, through communist party apparatus, was simply outdated and no longer applicable to the entire country. So he turned to his last set of friends, the heavily-ideological Yugoslav Army for help in stopping the secession of Croatia and Slovenia. The result was the bloodiest war in post-WWII Europe. So why, you may ask, do we dedicate so much space to a loser politician in charge of a perpetually losing nation? Well, history is there to teach us something rather painful in this case. The ANC and its partners are built very much in the same way, and on the same understanding of the liberation movement's moral righteousness and total infallibility as was the Yugoslav communist party. As any communist party, for that matter. The same system of deployment wrought incalculable damage to country's economy. The same near-total blindness to global developments and civilisational gains. The very same claims of exceptionalism. Especially where communist parties are concerned, history can teach a lot. The current antagonism within the tripartite alliance is a sure sign of a party that was running the country having gone unchallenged for way too long. So long, in fact, that the original idea around which the organisation was built has been long-relegated to largely fictional self-congratulatory statements about how great the country is and how well everyone lives. (Repeat after us: We have successfully completed the SABC's transformation from the state broadcaster into a public broadcaster.) No, the glue that holds every organisation that has near total power is just that, total power. And if one side in the ruling alliance does not enjoy that power, the organisation will eventually have to undergo a major, sometimes crippling and always painful make-over. So it is important to understand current events in the Cosatu – ANC – Youth League maelstrom through this historical perspective. Cosatu and the Youth League are motoring in completely opposite directions at full speed. Cosatu wants more socialism, Youth League chooses to follow an even worse path of cheap populism. But what is important to understand is that what happens within the ANC proper in the following weeks will substantially define the future of South Africa. By orchestrating his total domination over the Youth League and with his renewed push for his own agenda, Malema has pulled the wires to the point of breaking. And if his allies in the ANC leadership use the national general council to pull ever so slightly more in the same direction, it may render the alliance null and void, very much the same way as Milosevic did in 1990. In other words, if successful in taking over the ANC, Malema and company will probably win the battle, but lose the war. Still, it is not an easy task being a Cosatu leader these days. On one side, one has to satisfy the raging members regardless of the waning popular support, and on the other, one has to find another way of attacking the ANC without explicitly stating that the alliance is no more. Vavi and company have a painful choice to make these days, one of becoming the power themselves or not. And if Malema's line wins at the national general council, that choice will probably be made for them. Take away the incentives to excel and this is what you get. . . An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great; but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Couldn't be any simpler than that...

They lead to decades of frustrated poverty and lifetimes of untreated illness culminating in early death. I remember the columns of death notices for men and women in their forties and fifties that appeared in the local newspaper. Gradually I learned to associate those death notices with the lack of fresh foodstuffs, the travesty of state health care, and the pervasive demoralization of an enslaved population drowning itself in cheap alcohol and cigarettes. Gradually I came to understand that the condition of life under communism, so filled with repression, suspicion, and hopelessness, dragged one down into an early grave. Gradually I saw that within the communist state everyone-everyone except the leadership of course-subsists in a cage of gnawing bitterness and permanent defeatism. Unnumbered lives were sacrificed on the ungodly altar of communism in the last century, not only in my temporary abode of Yugoslavia but throughout eastern Europe, Russia, and much of Asia, Africa, and South America, and now the American Left wishes to revive this monstrous ideology on our own shores. Every totalitarian regime begins with the same heartfelt promises of justice and equality, just those promises of fairness that Barack Obama has made the fixation of his political career. What tyrant, one might ask, has not risen to power on promises of benevolent change? Soon, however, those who come to power, even with good intentions, discover that for all men to be made equal, some men must be made poor, and most men will not agree to be made poor in the absence of force. So force must be applied, assets must be seized, censorship must be imposed, dissidents must be jailed, enemies must be destroyed. Men must be made equal by any means necessary, and soon enough those means include intimidation, imprisonment, and execution. Again and again, the handsome smile of the reformer is twisted into the callous sneer of the tyrant. Those who present themselves as saviors are always the most dangerous, for unlike the one true savior, who rendered unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, they must work their will on the things of this world, and one cannot remake the world without the application of force. Under Jacob Zuma, its new leader, it has quietly adopted a radical platform of social policies which the business community claim are unaffordable. The ANC already promises a free allowance of water and electricity to all and has introduced the largest welfare state ever seen in a developing country, with more than 40% of the population in receipt of state handouts. Under the influence of its firebrand new secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe, a former leader of the mine-workers’ union and chairman of the South African Communist party, it is adopting policies and rhetoric based on left-wing states such as Cuba and Venezuela. Hailed by Zwelinzima Vavi, the trade union leader, as “a peasant, a worker, an organic intellectual, a Marxist and an African communist”, the bearded Mantashe is loud, dominating and furiously partisan. He has purged suspected supporters of Thabo Mbeki, the former president, and those who show “insufficient revolutionary fervour”. Under his influence the ANC is expected to propose, in its as yet unpublished manifesto, the introduction of universal health insurance, free education, the extension of child allowances to all children up to the age of 18, new maternity grants, wage subsidies, an old age savings scheme, subsidised housing for farm workers and military veterans, free food handouts to all poor families, an expanded public housing programme and the “transformation” of the private sector through the “development of cooperative financial institutions”. Greta Steyn, one of South Africa’s leading financial analysts, describes it as “a massive shift to the left”. The markets, she says, are in denial and have failed to price in the risk of what lies ahead. What it means, she suggests, is that the country’s budgetary framework “must be thrown into the bin”. The markets, she warns, “should wake up and smell the rot”. The ANC insists that its programme is affordable but has provided no costings. Servaas van der Berg, professor of economics at Stellenbosch University, has shown that even a basic income grant of R100 (£7) a month would force up marginal income tax rates from 40% to 66%, without counting the cost of the rest of the programme. The only alternative to tax increases would be massive foreign borrowing to fund state handouts. Trevor Manuel, the government’s finance minister, warns that South Africa already has one of the world’s largest current account deficits and needs at least £15 billion a year in foreign investment just to stay afloat. Under Mbeki, president from 1999 until his resignation last year, the communists became increasingly bitter at what they regarded as their political marginalisation. However, Mbeki’s decision to ditch Zuma, his popular deputy president, in 2005, gave them a second chance. They rallied to Zuma’s defence and, buoyed by his strong Zulu support, triumphed when he became the ANC leader in 2007. Although dogged by corruption charges, which he denies, Zuma, himself a former communist, will be the ANC’s presidential candidate. He has allowed the communists to dominate the drafting process of the ANC’s new manifesto and the party’s economic programme. Mantashe continually stakes out positions some way in advance of mainstream ANC policy, coming out strongly for the creation of more state enterprises, particularly in the mining sector. When business groups asked how this could be squared with Zuma’s promise of policy continuity, Mantashe brusquely told them that “continuity and change is a dialectical concept”. They were not reassured by the Marxist terminology. Mantashe stands for the absolute supremacy of party over government. When black judges failed to find for the ANC in an important court case, he railed against them as “counter-revolutionaries” and “apartheid apologists”. He has already announced that after the election “we [the party] will sack any ministers who do not perform”. The ANC programme calls for the assertion of party control over the central bank, with its interest rates set in line with social needs rather than for the control of inflation, as in the past. Azar Jammine, the influential chief economist of the Econometrix consultancy group, warned: “The consequence could well be a huge withdrawal of money. This would mean that South Africa could be unable to finance its current account deficit, the rand would plummet, inflation would soar and it would lead to a financial crisis.” Kobus Marais, finance spokesman for the opposition Democratic Alliance, accused the ANC of “having its head in the sand” and refusing to take notice of the international economic crisis. Merely increasing child benefit to age 18 will, he said, cost an extra £3 billion. It left people with deep scars, but I can assure you poverty is worse than that,” Rev. Faleni Mzukisi of the Presbyterian Church of Africa <a class="article_text" href="http://www.africafiles.org/article.asp?ID=19177" target="_blank">said last October</a>. “Mzukisi said that whilst apartheid denied rights and privileges, poverty meant people could neither meet their human needs nor attain proper dignity …,” said Fredrick Nzwili writing for Ecumenical News International. What good are human rights if people can’t live like humans? Mzukisi asked the participants of the 2008 World Association of Christian Communication Congress. “People do not eat human rights,” he said. “They want food on the table.” Fourteen years after the end of apartheid, some people are longing to return to its relative prosperity. For millions of South Africans, the Mandela “rainbow” revolution has become a gloomy cloud. Segregation laws are no more, but conditions are much worse. An astounding 40 percent of South Africans now live beneath the poverty line. And according to the Southern African Regional Poverty Network, since the official end of apartheid, “households living in poverty have sunk deeper into poverty and the gap between rich and poor has widened.” The exact unemployment rate is contentious. Unions place it at around 40 percent, while official government statistics say it is “only” around 23 percent. Either way, it is horrendous. Unemployment in the U.S. during the Great Depression peaked at around 25 percent. And, although government ministers claim that South Africa is still growing and will avoid “recession,” conditions on the ground indicate that “official” recession has already arrived. Investment bank Barclays warns that the economy is currently contracting. Over 200,000 <a class="article_text" href="http://www.wsws.org/articles/2009/feb2009/zuma-f02.shtml" target="_blank">jobs were lost</a> during the last quarter of 2008—a very large number for a country with a population of only 44 million. The U.S. equivalent would be akin to losing 1.4 million jobs over that time frame.“The growth picture has soured radically,” <a class="article_text" href="http://www.economist.com/agenda/displaystory.cfm?story_id=12797724" target="_blank">warns absa Capital economist</a> Ian Marsberg, “we are in for a rough ride next year.” For example, <a class="article_text" href="http://www.realestateweb.co.za/realestateweb/view/realestateweb/en/page196?oid=32289&sn=Detail" target="_blank">house prices</a> fell by 4 percent last year. That may not sound like much, but since government statistics indicate inflation is running at approximately 11 percent, homes actually lost 15 percent of their value. And the real depreciation may have been even greater since governments characteristically underreport inflation numbers. That said, home prices may have much further to fall after the massive run-up experienced over the past few years. Another clear indicator that the economy is in turmoil is the auto industry. New vehicle sales were down a massive 27 percent in December. That meant that for 2008, <a class="article_text" href="http://www.weekendpost.co.za/main/2009/01/10/business/bn01_10012009.htm" target="_blank">new vehicle sales fell</a> 20.3 percent across all categories compared to the year before.The metals and mining industry is also getting pummeled. Although gold prices have remained firm and even risen over the past year, the prices of virtually every other metal—including platinum, palladium, manganese and chrome—have plummeted. Platinum, for example, has plunged from over $2,000 per ounce to around $960 per ounce. Platinum makes up more than 14 percent of all South African exports.Mining is the <a class="article_text" href="http://www.southafrica.info/business/economy/sectors/mining.htm" target="_blank">single most important</a> employment sector for the South African economy. It is also the most important source of foreign revenue. Due to government corruption and lack of new investment, much of the country now suffers the same kind of <a class="article_text" href="http://blogs.reuters.com/africanews/2009/02/02/time-to-build-africa/" target="_blank">widespread power outages</a> that the rest of the continent has grown used to in the post-colonial era. Last year, the state introduced electricity rationing, with much of the mining industry and other heavy electricity users only receiving 90 to 95 percent of their power needs, after the national electrical grid <a class="article_text" href="http://uk.reuters.com/article/oilRpt/idUKLU74076620090130" target="_blank">almost collapsed</a>. Eskom, the state power company, is attempting to borrow money to upgrade the grid, but with the global credit crunch in full swing, it is having difficulty finding lenders willing to take the risk. And as things are getting darker, the cost of eating is skyrocketing. National <a class="article_text" href="http://www.witness.co.za/index.php?showcontent&global%5b_id%5d=18978" target="_blank">food price inflation</a> hit 17.1 percent in December. Coffee, tea and cocoa products registered an increase of more than 20 percent. Grain products were up 34.3 percent. Fats and cooking oils jumped 27.3 percent, while vegetables and dairy products were up between 13.4 and 16.2 percent. Meat prices climbed 8.4 percent. No jobs, and higher-priced food: It is no wonder that social breakdown continues.hiv <a class="article_text" href="http://www.southafrica.info/about/health/hivdrop-200707.htm" target="_blank">infection rates</a> remain high. About 29 percent of pregnant women visiting hospitals are infected, according to 2006 statistics. Violence runs unchecked throughout much of the country. It was estimated, according to 2006 figures, that a woman is raped in South Africa once every 26 seconds. During that year, <a class="article_text" href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4713172.stm" target="_blank">less than 1 percent</a> of rapes led to a conviction. Murderers run free too. About 19,000 people were murdered last year—more than 50 per day. Rule of law has become the rule of organized crime. Just yesterday, 500 police in South Africa’s crime-ridden commercial capital, Johannesburg, went on strike, accusing authorities of failing to bring senior officers to task over corruption. Last Friday, the government disbanded the country’s elite anti-crime investigating unit, known as the Scorpions. Why, especially when the Scorpions had a much better track record than the police at solving crime? <a class="article_text" href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g-oZpA2uubWaHG8Bcl0XGg3qRUMwD961MD2G1" target="_blank">According to Agence France Presse</a>, it was because they fell afoul of the ruling African National Congress party for their corruption investigation of anc leader Jacob Zuma. Zuma is expected to become the country’s next president when elections are held, probably in April. But as bad as conditions are in South Africa, they may be about to get dramatically worse. South Africa’s government has shifted radically to the left, according to the <a class="article_text" href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article5581272.ece#cid=OTC-RSS&attr=797093" target="_blank">Sunday </a><a class="article_text" href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article5581272.ece#cid=OTC-RSS&attr=797093" target="_blank">Times</a>. But perhaps the bigger shock is the manifesto’s proposal to transform “the private sector through the development of cooperative financial institutions.” In other words, nationalize and communize the economy. Zuma’s program also calls for the state to take over the South African central bank. Economists are astounded. Greta Steyn, a leading South African financial analyst, says that the markets are being set up for a massive crash and are “in denial.” Servaas van der Berg, professor of economics at Stellenbosch University, said that just the proposal for a basic income grant of R100 (us$10) would force up marginal income tax rates from 40 percent to 66 percent. So where will South Africa get the money to finance all these reforms? Jacob Zuma, whom the Times describes as knowing relatively little about economics, seems unconcerned. But here is a hint: Zuma will get the money he needs the same way his pal Robert Mugabe gets the money he needs. Lest we forget, Zimbabwe used to be even more prosperous than South Africa was at its peak. But then Robert Mugabe set off on his post-colonial reforms, his social programs, his government handouts, and the land grabs. And how did Mugabe pay for it all? First, he redistributed the land in order to fill his coffers and buy favors. When that wasn’t enough, he started nationalizing other sectors of the economy, including some of the world’s richest mines. But that wasn’t enough either. So eventually, he was forced to nationalize and assert complete control over the nation’s reserve bank—that way he could print whatever money he wanted to pay the bills. Unfortunately, that destroyed the value of Zimbabwe’s currency—completely wiping out what little savings his people had left. But Mugabe and his cronies got filthy rich in the process, moving assets offshore, or converting their devaluing dollars into gold or other currencies. The anc’s supposed desire to nationalize South Africa’s central bank should be a clear indicator of what is headed in South Africa’s direction: Zimbabwe economics. And that means a Zimbabwe standard of living for the vast majority. Things are about to get much tougher in South Africa. Africa’s modern history is a continent filled with nation-states in various stages of post-colonial collapse. South Africa was a notable exception to this rule for several decades after becoming an independent republic. But now, that is changing—and rapidly. White people are the devil's spawn, the source of all evil in the world, the center-point of suffering, exploitation and war. According to the latest racist formulas, if you reduce the whites and eliminate the influence of "dead white males" from universities, you will liberate mankind from the great oppressor. Then there will be paradise on earth. So the campaign against whites, which began many years ago, has advanced through country after country. Perhaps you missed hearing about the anti-white atrocities in Angola. Perhaps the history of Mozambique is unfamiliar to you. Recently, a 4-year-old white farm girl was reported raped and mutilated in South Africa. Perhaps this will appease the righteous indignation of the non-whites. Here is the logic of the new racism. It is a racism that says white is bad, non-white is good. Anyone who stands up for white people is automatically listed with Hitler, who also stood up for white people. The trick here is "guilt by association" and "guilt by skin color." Since 1994 blacks have killed over 4,000 white farmers in South Africa. Has there been a peep from the white world? Have American blacks complained about this treatment of a minority population in Africa? Or has a double standard emerged? It is an odd thing when humanitarian concern is blotted out by the fact of skin color. And please note: There is no racial solidarity on the white side. Or none that amounts to anything. The great white herd, having liquidated Hitler from its midst, having purged the memory of Nazism and the colonial past, is now ready to be slaughtered and milked in turn. It seems that human beings cannot find a middle, reasonable path. We cannot get rid of racism. Instead, we must supplant one evil for another. Previously it was the non-whites who suffered. Now we enter an era in which whites are being tenderized for the spit. The madness of one form of prejudice never gives way to reason, but only to another type of prejudice. The same liberals who rant against the evils of the Dark Ages have paved the way to a new Dark Age. So let the black Africans exterminate the white Africans. Let an entire African culture go under. Say nothing, do nothing, go along and get along. After all, they're white! If you haven't noticed, Russian transports fly regularly into the embattled cities of communist Angola. They are carrying weapons for the communists. The North Koreans are eyeing the uranium mines of the Congo. The Chinese and Russians have quietly aligned themselves with the communist-dominated ANC government of South Africa. The race card has been played by one side against another in a global struggle. Today, after playing this card, Western aid will not flow to the pro-Western side in Africa. The strategic Cape sea route, through which the Middle East's oil flows to Europe and America, can now be cut by the growing South African armed forces, which are now in league with Russia and China. First, the ANC is more seriously divided than anyone imagined even after the Polokwane punch-up. Second, the Jacob Zuma camp is working itself into a reckless frenzy as it realises its man's legal position is becoming more fragile. The attack on Motlanthe was astonishing not only for its presumptuousness, with a bunch of youngsters having the gall to denounce the second most senior figure in the party for trying to discipline them, but also because they are all supposedly in the same Zuma camp. It was the pro-Zuma crowd, with the Youth League prominent, who chose Motlanthe as the ANC's alternative candidate for the national presidency should Zuma fail to survive his corruption case. Now the youths are vilifying him, in typically venomous language, for saying they should stop attacking the judiciary and other important democratic institutions. So much for the vaunted loyalty and discipline of ANC members. So much, too, for the myth that the ANC is still a united organisation. Not only did it split in two at Polokwane, but in the eight months since it has been writhing in a power struggle at provincial and regional levels that has driven hundreds of Thabo Mbeki supporters from office and out of contention for places on the electoral lists. Now we have this new evidence that the Zuma camp itself is split -- at the highest level. This bespeaks a party in trouble. The Youth League attack does not in fact come out of the blue. There have been rumours for weeks of growing tensions between Motlanthe and the Zuma camp. As Zuma's legal problems mount and his prospects of being able to dodge his day in court diminish, Motlanthe begins to loom larger as a rival. So he must now be "eliminated" by those who proclaim their readiness to "kill for Zuma". Which prompts the question of what has happened to the ANC that it has allowed itself to degenerate in this way? Is it not perhaps the same as has happened to many other liberation movements around the continent once their founding objective, that of liberation, was achieved? That there is a loss of that sense of mission and idealism that once bound its disparate members together in comradeship, and all that is left now is the vehicle that got them there -- a vehicle to be seized and controlled to carry individuals to power, privilege and prosperity? If so, it means not only that the ANC is disintegrating but that it has lost its soul. This self-destructive behaviour may intensify if Zuma's position weakens further. Last month's Constitutional Court judgment came as a great blow to the Zuma camp, for it marked the end of the road for his long legal campaign to prevent a mass of potentially damning documentary evidence in the hands of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) being admissible in court. Now only one legal avenue remains, and that is to try to stop the case altogether. Two attempts are pending. One was a high court application made last month to have the decision to prosecute declared unlawful. The other is an application for a permanent stay of prosecution to be made on November 25. In line with the defence team's own description of its approach as a "Stalingrad strategy" -- meaning it will fight a rearguard action street by street every inch of the way to stop the case -- it is clear that even if Zuma should lose these applications he would try to start a new round of appeals, so delaying the trial until after next year's election. By which time Zuma would be president of the republic and the ANC could enact a law indemnifying a sitting president from being prosecuted. But there's a snag. In last month's Constitutional Court judgment, Chief Justice Pius Langa noted that while he regarded the right of appeal as important, courts should not allow it to be misused to delay trials. He laid down an injunction that "all courts should discourage pretrial litigation ... that seeks to delay the commencement of trials". That has increased the sense of alarm in the Zuma camp, which is why it is now switching its attention to what it calls "a political solution". This is gaining public attention, for it sounds like an easy way out of an embarrassing problem. But it is a misnomer. It is not a solution, for there is no "legally and constitutionally tenable way", as some suggest, to drop a criminal charge against a major public figure. Any attempt would amount to a political deal that would violate the rule of law, which is the central pillar of our constitution and of any democratic system. A special commission, modelled on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which would exchange truth-telling for amnesty on the arms deal, has been mooted. But that would avail Zuma little, for the arms deal constitutes only a small fraction of the 16 charges he is facing, which involve 400 separate payments totaling R4,2m over 10 years from 1995 to 2005. Even a special law indemnifying a president from prosecution would be challengeable in the Constitutional Court on the grounds that it violated our Bill of Rights principle that "all are equal before the law". It has been suggested that the country's prosecutorial guidelines may offer a way out, since they state that a prosecutor's duty is to prosecute a case -- unless "public interest demands otherwise". But there is a huge difference between the "public interest" and "public opinion" -- especially public opinion confined to a particular political party. Some in the Zuma camp are suggesting that prosecuting Zuma would be against the public interest because it might provoke unrest. But it is they who are threatening to create the unrest. It would be a most cynical violation of the rule of law to use such a self-generated threat as a pretext for dropping a criminal charge against a would-be president whose character should be exposed to the closest possible public scrutiny. Those tempted by this seemingly quick-fix idea should think carefully. With the disbanding of the Scorpions, the huge pressure on the NPA and the orchestrated campaign to intimidate the judiciary, who in SA will ever again attempt to prosecute a prominent public figure? Corruption, already rife, will become rampant. That is the road to destruction. My worst case scenario. My best case scenario would be for Zuma to step aside from the presidential race and have his day in court, leaving Motlanthe, in accordance with the Polokwane decision, to take over and lead the ANC and the country. Or if Zuma doesn't really want that day in court, if he fears that the case against him is too forbidding, let him seek a plea bargain. He might then end up with a suspended sentence instead of the 15 years which is the statutory minimum sentence for the charges he faces. That would prevent him from becoming president of SA, but he could, the party willing, still be president of the ANC. Written by Ross Benson, reporting first-hand from Johannesburg, it lifts the lid on the near-collapse of South Africa since white rule ended a few years ago. And how may one measure that catastrophe? South Africa’s regression towards primeval barbarism, which Benson details, is quite neatly summarised at the head of his article: “A woman is raped every 28 seconds, qualified doctors are leaving in droves, while beggars and goats have set up home in the marble foyers of derelict banks. South Africa today has become a nation on the edge of self-destruction.” Law and order have to all intents and purposes broken down in South Africa. Any sense of security no longer exists. Says Benson of the country’s crime:- “Farmers are butchered in their fields. The parks and beaches have become killing fields. Car-jackings with mind-numbing violence are a daily occurrence. The murder rate is running at 27,000 a year.” Benson then repeats the horrifying statistics for rape, of which more will be said. These figures, he comments, “breed the kind of fear that has you leaping at shadows, jumping red lights and climbing out of bed in the middle of the night to check, yet again, that you have double-locked the doors.” For you to protect your home even halfway adequately, it now seems that you need to pay an ‘armed response’ security firm. But whatever you do is never enough. One black businessman told Benson that he had lost count of the numbers of his friends who had been mugged. Everyone is in the firing line. No social gathering can take place without horror stories being exchanged. But at this point we get some hint of the censorship that hitherto has been mobilised to keep as much as possible of the truth from the public gaze (presumably an increasingly difficult task in the ever-worsening crisis engulfing the country). A white security man commented on the criminal mayhem: “It’s happening to your friends, your brother, his wife, your sister, your mother,” but, “it isn’t something you read in the papers or hear about on the television news any more.” Adds Benson: “He carried a gun, but he wasn’t fooling himself. He knew it could happen to him. In Mandela’s ‘Rainbow Nation’ the dream is running blood red.” Clearly, South Africa’s new ANC (African National Congress) Government is almost neurotically aware that the legitimacy of its rule is at stake here. Decline of a city Nowhere is the situation worse than in Johannesburg, where it is exemplified in all its worst manifestations. Benson gives a graphic description of how that unhappy city has declined. Here too, he comes courageously close to modern-day heresy in giving the White Man his historic due as the true creator of South Africa’s original productive infra-structure (a subject today largely taboo in a world sold on the ‘politically correct’ elevation of the non-European at the expense of the European), and also focusing on the White Man’s predicament now. In a striking characterisation of the city, Benson writes:- “Built on the largest seam of gold ever discovered, this was once the richest city in Africa, a gleaming steel-and-glass citadel rising out of the brown ocean of the Veld, a testament to the economic power (and perhaps the innate character? JM) of the white community that built it, but also an example of what can be achieved by hard work and individual enterprise.” And now? “the skyscrapers are still there,” he continues, “but the people who gave them life and prosperity have gone, driven out by hordes of squatters, beggars and illegal traders who bought Mandela’s promise of a ‘better life for all’ - and demanded instant delivery.” He continues:- “Barbecues made of old oil cans blaze in the marble foyers of what used to be the headquarters of banks and airlines. There are goats tethered in hallways. Corrugated iron huts have sprung up on the once-manicured lawns. “This is not an environment in which any respectable business person, be they black or white, can live or work - and most have fled.” Benson next proceeds to a grim and frightening account of what has been very rapid urban and social decay in the centre of a city in which I once lived and worked myself. Now, even big business is quitting a metropolis of which it was once the raison d’être. The country’s flag carrier, South African Airlines, has taken refuge in the distant outer suburbs. The big mining houses (which practically built the town) and even the Stock Exchange are to follow suit. It is evident they can hardly remain in a city centre in which it is unsafe for their employees to travel to and from work. Benson also reports that the Carlton Hotel has closed and sold all its contents, and “the Holiday Inn is a deserted fortress, its 800 empty rooms protected by reinforced steel shutters.” It is as if the London Hilton, the Dorchester and our other luxury hotels were to close down because order had totally collapsed, and the city had become uninhabitable! All this is the tale of one of the world’s major cities crumbling into chaos and dereliction, perhaps one day in the not too distant future to become as defunct as ancient Babylon. It is now impossible even to walk in any degree of safety to the South African Supreme Court building to get one’s case heard. The alleyways leading to it are prowled by muggers who, says Benson, “are not open to appeal.” Although the court still goes through the motions of administering the law, this has, comments Benson, “helped ease the backlog of cases” in a country where, as other commentators have noted, ‘affirmative action’ has led to the colonisation of the bench by magistrates who are illiterate, incompetent, corrupt and racially and politically biased, and routinely bail murderers and rapists back into the community to re-offend. Cases are never dealt with, crime explodes - no law, no order! Fear at night No wonder Central Johannesburg is now so much a place to avoid, especially at night. “As dusk falls,” says Benson… “… the streets start filling with prostitutes and criminals pushing drugs, and pills that turn a black skin white - before eventually killing you (if AIDS hasn’t claimed you first; up to 10 per cent of the population is carrying the virus and three quarters of the entire health budget will soon be spent on treating the incurable). “You can hear the occasional sound of gunfire rolling down from Hillbrow, by cruel coincidence Johannesburg’s first integrated neighbourhood.” To many, including me (who once lived in that very high-rise district), this does not seem so much of a coincidence. Implicitly referring to the consequences of ‘affirmative action’, Benson describes how… “… the police keep promising to move in and clean the place up; they never do, and if they did it probably wouldn’t make any difference: the Minister in charge of so-called security recently admitted to parliament that a policeman is three times more likely to commit a serious crime than an average member of the public.” Summarising his observations of Johannesburg, Benson comments:- “So much for the dream. This is the reality - and it is a shocking one, worse than I had anticipated. I have seen cities abandoned in war. This is the first city I have ever seen abandoned to the barbarians in time of peace.’ So what of the luckless Whites, themselves abandoned amid this chaos to the consequences of ‘multiracial democracy’? This, Benson makes clear, is not only a tale of de facto displacement by conditions of social chaos which white people find utterly intolerable; this in itself has caused mass white migrations. In Johannesburg those who opt to remain in proximity to the city have retreated to its northern outer suburbs. But there is a mass movement, in effect recoiling on the old pioneer routes, back to Cape Province, the region of South Africa in which Europeans first touched land. It is estimated that in five years 80 per cent of the country’s Whites will be clustered towards the Cape. Even in the Cape there is now a project to establish at least one urban area, some miles into the interior outside Cape Town, which will in practice be a fortified settlement. With property priced beyond what most Blacks, and quite a few poor Whites, could possibly afford, it is, at the size of Monaco, to be protected by a 33,000-volt fence and patrolled by armed guards. But in addition, fearful of lawlessness, the white population is also being harassed and persecuted by the law. As Benson comments:- “The government has lost the battle of the streets but they have control of parliament, and they have used their power to pass legislation aimed specifically at one ethnic group.” Instead of apartheid, there is now ‘affirmative action’, whereby Whites are de jure displaced from their jobs and deprived of their incomes to make way for Blacks, without regard for the latter’s qualifications or abilities, but purely on racial grounds in order to “redress past imbalances.” The result? Air traffic controllers are now being appointed who cannot read their instruments. According to Commissioner of Police George Fivaz, 30,000 of his officers are “functionally illiterate.” To supplement the facts quoted by Benson, one may add the purging of the health services over two years ago (as also reported at the time in the Daily Mail, by Peter Younghusband, the paper’s then South African correspondent) by the Minister of Health Nkosazana Zuma, who replaced district surgeons and doctors with Cuban recruits competent neither in the English language nor as medical practitioners. Working class whites thrown on scrapheap Working class Whites are now being dumped and paid a miserable dole to make way for Africans. Benson quotes the example of a bus driver sacked after 17 years service. For blue-collar Whites, “the economic trap-door has opened beneath them and dropped them below the poverty line. Unemployed and never likely to be employed, their children ragged and barefoot, dependent on benefits of £150 a month each, which is often not paid (the social services are being ‘re-organised - and there’s a sinister phrase!). Some families can no longer afford to feed themselves.” These now rely on church soup kitchens. Apparently, whilst the violently racist, anti-white politician Patricia De Lille says that Tony Blair has donated £20,000 to the home for sick children for which she works, “no-one,” says Benson, “is digging in their pockets to help poor Whites. They are off the end of Mandela’s rainbow, without a pot of gold in sight.” The Government in the new South Africa is intolerant of opposition. According to white Democratic Party opposition leader Tony Leon, “they want everyone to be ‘on side’. If you criticise them - and we do vigorously - they call you neo-nazi racists” (a strange epithet considering that Leon is Jewish). It seems that even Patricia De Lille - whose Pan-Africanist Party’s slogan is “One settler [i.e. white person], one bullet” - has been “battered by this accusation.” The cause? She has been taking the ANC Government and its Ministers to task for the stupendous corruption whereby they have turned themselves and their most privileged supporters into a new class of fat cats (all very typical of post-colonial Africa). Free school lunches promised by Mandela fail to reach the children; family allowances are not paid; council houses are so jerry-built they are virtually uninhabitable. But when these failures come under criticism as in the case of de Lille the response of the Government under the new president Mbeki is to threaten her with expulsion from parliament for being ‘racist’, and bring in legislation to outlaw criticism of a person’s ‘private life’ which might “impair their dignity.” De Lille asks where the money for these public projects went, and answers “into someone’s pocket.” There was corruption under South Africa’s ancien regime, as there is any country in the world under any government. But it was never, as it is today, on a scale sufficient to cause the collapse of whole areas of public administration. In a nutshell, then, thanks to Ross Benson, we now have an overview of the ‘New South Africa’ from which to take stock. What we see is a picture of vicious and exploding crime, of chaos verging on anarchy, of corruption and incompetence way beyond anything in the country’s past, and of the racial harassment and persecution of the white minority - the people who actually built the country in the first place, and without whom there would have been literally nothing for their successors to take over and bring to ruin. It is not a picture which those with their heads screwed on the right way did not predict, decades ago, as the likely outcome of majority rule - though such people were then, and would still now be, vilified as “right-wing, racist reactionaries.” or worse. Such a fate has come upon Ross Benson, who has been roundly denounced in sections of the South African media, according to a second article by correspondent David Jones, also writing from Johannesburg, published in the Mail two weeks after his own. Backlash The Mail’s own letters page witnessed a similar backlash of censorious intolerance in the week following the publication of Benson’s report. This response looked a little like a co-ordinated ‘write-in’ against Benson by aggrieved ANC supporters in Britain. This was in spite of Jones‘ characterisation of his piece as a “painfully accurate article about the demise of post-apartheid South Africa.” It is worth pointing out that neither Benson nor Jones have any record of being ‘racists’ or supporters of apartheid - something that ought to be self-evident, to those in the know, by the fact that they have access to the columns of a major national newspaper like the Daily Mail. Imagine if the local police force in Iowa was also black, hostile to whites, illiterate and only had their positions because of affirmative action. Well, welcome to the reality of the “New South Africa.” Despite the Madison Avenue spin on the great Nelson Mandela and his ruling ANC, South Africa has decayed into the hell of rape, AIDS, murder and anarchy over the past fourteen years. Mandela’s rainbow nation has failed. It has done worst than fail -– it has turned into a genocide against white South Africans. Why should we be surprised? History shows that all Marxist states will eventually decay into genocide. Look at Pol Pot’s Cambodia, Stalin’s Russia and Mao’s China. Killing whites has become the sport of choice in Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa. Can you imagine the media outcry if whites were killing blacks? Many whites have fled South Africa during the years of ANC rule -- almost one-third, according to some statistics. Nelson Mandela has pleaded with whites to stay in the country, and even begged for those who left to return to help rebuild the nation. Current South African President Thabo Mbeki (who admits he grew up memorizing the works of Karl Marx) has formed an alliance with communist China. For decades, South Africa had helped Taiwan, but, Mandela switched official recognition from Taiwan to China. Mbeki has applauded the seizures of white-owned farms in neighboring Zimbabwe, even as ANC black revolutionary cadres step up their terror campaign against white farmers in South Africa. His communist flank secure, Mbeki announced in a speech to parliament that he was handing over control of South Africa's economy to international financier George Soros and a group of 12 Western transnational corporations. What does this mean to white South Africans, especially the Afrikaners or “Boer” farmers who feed the nation? Well, one must remember that the Afrikaners are tough, like the Israelis and South Koreans. Most of the men served in the army at one point. The Afrikaners inflicted real losses on the Russians and Cubans during the 1980’s Border War with Angolan communists. They are experts at using dynamite and guerilla tactics. They even have a few atomic bombs hidden in Zululand, as reported in the book, “Mandela’s Nuclear Nightmare,” by Peter Hunam. Things have really come full circle in South Africa. Just over a decade ago the Afrikaners were being called “Nazis” by the liberal establishment media for the excesses of Apartheid. Yes, the evil deeds of South African racists like Dr. Wauter Basson and “Prime Evil” Eugene deKock are the epitome of evil. Yet the present genocide against the Afrikaners waged by black ANC Marxist cadres is equally as evil, and perhaps worse since it also includes the rape and murder of little children. Who are these “men” who commit such heinous crimes? The Afrikaners, Christians and pro-Western allies, tried to tell the world about the hell South Africa would become if the ANC were put in power. But little did they know that the mineral wealth of South Africa was all that mattered to the power brokers in America and the UK. The Afrikaners have been betrayed like all other allies of the U.S. and UK since World War II –- the Kurds, Karen of Burma, Hmong of Laos, Montagnards of Vietnam, UNITA in Angola, South Sudan, Kampas of Tibet and the hearty Rhodesians. Today, the Afrikaners have come full circle. They first came to South Africa in the mid 1600’s. They built the Cape Colony for the Dutch East India Company. Then the British sailed in to port and took over. The Afrikaners left on their “Great Trek” up into Zululand during the era just after Jacksonian America. They fought and won the “Battle of Blood River” on the “day of the vow,” when they asked God to grant them victory against the Zulus. The Afrikaners were victorious, but did not conquer the Zulus. Instead they kept only part of South Africa – the Transvaal and Orange Free State. They allowed the Zulus to keep their own King and religion (based on “Unkulunkulu” a being not unlike the God of the Bible) and land. The British coveted the gold and diamonds of the Transvaal and launched not one but TWO Boer Wars. Between 1899-1902 the British killed over 26,000 Afrikaner women and children in the world’s first concentration camps. Yet still, the Afrikaners fought along with the British in both World Wars, and helped the South Koreans in the Korean War. By the 1960’s South Africa was one of the richest nations in the world, and by 1973 the Rand was worth 25 percent more than the US Dollar. South Korea repaid South Africa for that debt by voting at the U.N. for anti-South Africa sanctions in the 1970’s and 1980’s. America and the UK pushed the Afrikaners into handing over their nation and the mineral treasure it holds to the Communist ANC. The ANC has responded with genocide against the Afrikaners and a new alliance with Red China. China is busy building a submarine base in South Africa and has for all intents and purposes already made an agreement with Russia and Shiite Islam about how to best carve up Africa. Now, with the world totally stacked against her interests, the Afrikaners have once again circled the wagons into their infamous laagar. They have no government, they are once again cut off from world, and the faith of their forefathers at Blood River is their only hope of survival. Since Apartheid ended in 1994, more than 2,966 farmers have already been murdered in more than 83,000 armed attacks, making this ethnic Afrikaner-Boer minority group the highest at-risk-of-murder group in the entire world. Yes, there are evil places on Earth –- the Balkans, Rwanda, Lebanon and Burma. Man against man. Tribe against tribe. They kill each other because they have not learned to share and because they have left God out of their hearts. Is there hope? Yes, of course. Such hope would be given a major jolt if the U.S. Congress and President Bush turned their attention from kissing the feet of the blood stained dictators in Communist China long enough to examine the South African farm killings. We certainly can’t wait for the arrogant rock stars who protested Apartheid to admit they were wrong to endorsing the blood stained ANC’s takeover of the nation.
