An off-duty taxi driver who asked for an apology from another taxi driver was shot dead in an apparent road rage incident in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
Inspector Michael Read said a taxi from the Pinetown taxi association had "squeezed" its way past a taxi from the Malvern association, striking the rear view mirror, on Thursday afternoon in Carlisle Street.
"A passenger in the Malvern taxi, who was an off-duty taxi driver as well, alighted from the vehicle and basically asked for an apology," said Read.
The Pinetown taxi driver got out of his vehicle and an argument ensued. "The Pinetown driver pulled out a firearm and shot the passenger once in the chest."
Mondli Sibisi (26) collapsed and died at the scene.
The suspect then got back into his taxi and fled the scene.
