This year's 16 Miss Switzerland contestants are turning heads not just for their beauty but also for their diverse backgrounds that reflect multicultural Swiss society.
It could be Miss World on Swiss television with a line up of women with Indian, Haitian, Spanish, Turkish, Swedish, Balkan, Austrian and American roots.

Nancy Kabika who was born in Kinshasa was tipped as a strong contender to become the first black Miss Switzerland.

Whitney Toyloy, aged 18, from Yverdon in western Switzerland was elected the new Miss Switzerland on Saturday at a televised gala event in Lugano. The youngest of 16 competitors, Toyloy has a multicultural background, with her ancestors coming from the United States, China, Panama and Switzerland.

Twenty-year-old Rekha Datta, a bank employee from Winkel near Zurich, came second, while Lisa Panigada from canton Ticino, 22, came third.
