MISS WORLD 2008
Miss World 2008, the 58th Miss World Final will be held at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa on the 12th December 2008. Originally the pageant was going to take place in Kiev, Ukraine but due to the ongoing crisis between Georgia and Russia in neighboring South Ossetia it was moved away from this Eastern European nation. At the conclusion of the final night of competition, outgoing titleholder Zhang Zilin will crown her successor.

From the first pageant till 1988 the pageant was always held in England, but in 1989 the organization decided to hold it in various places. In 2002 the pageant would have been in Nigeria, but because of a scandal the event was held in England.
In 2006 the pageant was held in Poland and in September for the first time in its history.
The number of the contestants are the highest among the international beauty pageants, since 2003 more than a hundred ladies compete in this contest every year.
Venezuela and India is the most favourited countries, by winning 5-5 Miss World titles. They are followed by the United Kingdom with 4 titles, and Iceland, Jamaica and Sweden with 3. Netherlands, USA, Argentina and Austria won 2 titles, the other countries has 1 winner.
The European countries are very popular in this pageant. During the 57 years of its history there were 24 European winners followed by 20 American, 6 Asian, 4 African and 3 Oceanian.
In 2007 the first winner from Far-East was crowned Miss World.
